The lengthy, drawn out Louisville men’s basketball infractions case stemming from the FBI investigation in 2017 is finally over.
The Cardinals received punishment this morning that equates to less than a slap on the wrist. Rick Pitino and Chris Mack both escaped with no punishment.
Here’s a quick summary:
BREAKING: Louisville dodges major punishments in IARP case, @CBSSports has learned. No postseason ban, $5,000 fine, small reduction in recruiting days and two years of probation. Rick Pitino, Chris Mack avoid punishment entirely.
Decision will be made public later this AM.

From the IARP: “The hearing panel concluded that the case record did not provide sufficient or credible information to conclude that the apparel company (Adidas) was a representative of (Louisville’s) athletics interests.”

IARP on PITINO: “The hearing panel determined no violation by former head coach No. 1 occurred given that he demonstrated (that) he promoted an atmosphere for compliance.”

In hindsight, the Cardinals already served their time. They fired Rick Pitino, fired Tom Jurich, self-imposed an NCAA Tournament ban and basically wrecked their program over the last five years. Now, they can move forward.
