Leach’s tenure at Mississippi State opened with a stunning 45-35 upset of No. 6 LSU.

Quarterback K.J. Costello was K.J. Costello was 36-60 for 623 yards and 5 touchdowns in the win.
The Bulldogs had three receivers with more than 100 yards, led by Osirus Mitchell with 7 catches for 183 yards and 2 touchdowns.
