UK Athletics gives update on recent COVID-19 testing

UK Athletics has released COVID-19 testing results for all student athletes.

Out of 416 PCR tests, there were 10 positive results. Antibody testing for an additional 259 student-athletes resulted in 9 positive results for past infections.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – With students returning to campus and classes resuming at the University of Kentucky, COVID-19 testing is now in place for all UK Athletics teams and related staff.

Details from the most recent testing include:

416 student-athletes from all sports were PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tested from August 7-19. Ten were PCR positive.

259 student-athletes who had newly returned to campus also underwent antibody testing during the initial onboarding process, with nine positive for past infections.

143 staff members were PCR tested from August 7-19. One was PCR positive.

Student-athletes and staff testing PCR positive were required to isolate in accordance with CDC and local health department guidelines. UK Athletics will continue to actively monitor the situation surrounding COVID-19 and respond accordingly in collaboration with University of Kentucky leadership and the guidance of the Southeastern Conference Medical Task Force.
