KHSAA Could Limit Fans to Girls and Boys Sweet 16s

KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett spoke about the possible effects of the coronavirus outbreak on the kHSAA Girls and Boys Sweet 16 which is taking place this week and next week in Rupp Arena.

It sounds like there could be an announcement tomorrow that could keep fans from attending the tournaments in some capacity.

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association will announce a plan Thursday that could limit fans attending the rest of this week’s girls basketball state tournament and next week’s boys basketball state tournament at Rupp Arena.

“Playing with less fans is better than not playing at all,” commissioner Julian Tackett said Wednesday night. “There’s no fans, limited fans, less limited fans. The first priority is, ‘Can we play?’ That’s what we want to try to guarantee first.”

Tackett went on to say that the Boys Sweet 16 will not be postponed but will be played on our around its original dates.

Tackett said postponing next week’s Boys Sweet 16 is not a viable option.

“The key is to try to play in some form or fashion at its original dates,” he said.
