Boone Newspapers, Inc. laid off sports reports at the Danville Advocate-Messenger and Winchester Sun earlier this week.
Now, the company has put out an opportunity for local fans to submit scores, photos and stories to the paper for free:
Boone Newspapers should be ashamed of itself. Period.
I’m all for regular Janes and Joes participating in journalism; they should! It’s for and about them. But asking them to do work, for free, at the expense of actual fact-checking & writing done by a professional? Disgusting. pic.twitter.com/X0rMzRNSoE

ICYMI: Boone laid off the sports reporters at the Danville Advocate-Messenger and the Winchester Sun. Awful developments for two communities that very much value their local sports programs, and the individuals trying to make a living in an unforgiving industry. Depressing.
