Jamison Epps Pulls Down 31 Rebounds in Record-Breaking Night

Kentucky fans will recognize the Epps name as Anthony was one of the great Wildcats during the mid-1990s when UK returned to national prominence and eventually won national championships in 1996 and 1998.

Now, there’s another Epps making noise in Kentucky high school basketball.

Epps’ son, Jamison, scored 31 points and pulled down a ridiculous 31 rebounds last night in Marion County’s double overtime win over North Hardin.

The 31 boards broke the school, district and region records. According to research by Nate Bryan, it is the most rebounds in a KHSAA boys game in more than 20 years.

Epps is coached at Marion County by former Morehead State player Maze Stallworth.

After last night’s win, the Knights are 17-7 with three regular season games remaining.

Epps was averaging 18 points and 13 rebounds prior to last night’s big game. He also had a 20/20 game earlier this season in a win over Danville.

“When you see these stats, you think, ‘wow, he must be a great player,'” Stallworth told me this morning. “Yes, he’s a great player and very talented, but his character and the way he carries himself are what makes Jamison special.”

Stallworth noted that Epps is carrying a 3.5 GPA and has already scored 23 on his ACT.

“There are some college coaches missing out on a very talented young man on and off the court,” Stallworth added. “I fully expect Jamison to have several more big games like this before the season is over.”
