Chris Mullin is stepping down as head coach at St. John’s according to a report by Jon Rothstein.
Mullin underwhelmed in four seasons at the helm, finishing 21-13 this season with a talented roster.

ESPN confirmed Rothstein’s report:
Chris Mullin is expected to step down as the men’s basketball head coach at St. John’s, sources confirmed to ESPN.
Red Storm athletic director Mike Cragg issued a statement of support on Saturday, saying, “Chris Mullin is our head coach and we are not looking for another head coach.” The statement came after a week of rumblings about contentious meetings between Mullin and Cragg.
If this text from Adam Zagoria is accurate, Rick Pitino REALLY wants the job…if he can get an apology from the Southern District of New York:
.@RealPitino tells me he ‘would bring @StJohnsBBall to the elite level’ not seen since Lou Carnesecca. pic.twitter.com/ij1mdcCSK7

“But before that could ever happen the Southern District of NY would have to apologize for ruining an innocent mans reputation by putting his name in a complaint,” Pitino said in the text. “So good luck to my hometown University because that’s not happening.”
In all honesty, St. John’s is the most Rick Pitino of jobs.
I’m sure Dick Vitale approves of this message:
