Tennessee overcame an 18-point second half deficit to take a late lead against Purdue, but the Boilermakers pulled out a 99-94 win in overtime to advance to the Elite Eight.
The Volunteers appeared on their way to a victory, but a controversial late call allowed Purdue to tie the game:
Tennessee loses largely because they were called for a foul that wasn’t a foul.

Tennessee got hosed. There was no foul on that three at the end of regulation.

Sensational game. Congrats to Purdue. Absolute garbage foul call on Tennessee on 3 at end of regulation. Just terrible. Season, game changer.

This team deserves better than that 3 point foul call with 1.7 left. Beyond proud of these guys. They have represented Tennessee better than anyone could imagine. Showed exactly who they are fighting back from a brutal first half.

Was Carson Edwards out of bounds on that final shot before the phantom foul was called?#MarchMadness #Tennessee #Purdue @Ballislife @SethDavisHoops @GoodmanHoops pic.twitter.com/2ATmE9mWk0

The foul call was certainly controversial, but Tennessee’s demise came at the free throw line where they were only 14-for-28 (50%).
