The field is set for the 2018 KHSAA Class 6A Playoffs and the first round kicks off tonight.
Trinity blew away the competition on the way to the 2017 state championship, but the Shamrocks had an uncharacteristic 4-6 season in 2018. That being said, Trinity is still in the hunt it won’t be a shocker at all if they win the title once again.
The question is whether or not Frederick Douglass (10-0) can survive the playoffs and bring the title back to Lexington.
Here’s a look at the bracket:
Our thoughts:
The top half of the bracket could go a number of different ways. Who knows which team will survive from the group of Trinity, Male, St. Xavier and Ballard. We like Trinity to get hot when it matters and make a run to the semifinals. St. Xavier knocked off both Trinity and Male during the regular season, so we are going to give them the nod to get to Lexington.
Make no mistake, it won’t be a surprise at all to Trinity back at Kroger Field despite their losing record in the regular season.
Frederick Douglass was undefeated in the regular season and we like their chances to make history in only their second season of existence. If the Broncos can get past Scott County and Simon Kenton, we like their chances to win the whole thing.
Championship game: Frederick Douglass vs. St. Xavier
Champions: Frederick Douglass
