Mark Stoops a possible Candidate to Replace Jimbo Fisher at Florida State

Jimbo Fisher left Florida State Friday to be the head coach at Texas A&M. The Sporting News has listed nine candidates to be the next head coach at FSU.

Oregon’s Willie Taggert, Les Miles, Florida Atlantic’s Lane Kiffin and Kentucky’s Mark Stoops are listed as potential replacements for Jimbo Fisher.

Florida State coaching candidates
Big names
Willie Taggart, Oregon

This one lines up well. Taggart would be making a big move from Oregon to Florida State, but he’s a Florida native who built the South Florida program into a New Year’s Day Six contender. Keep an eye on this one. It might be FSU’s best play despite Oregon’s hefty offer to Taggart.

Les Miles

Miles knows how to run a big-time program, but the style of offense might not be appealing enough for FSU fans. Miles isn’t a long-term hire either. Still, Miles knows how to accumulate NFL talent.

Lane Kiffin, FAU

You can’t ignore the job Kiffin did at Florida Atlantic in just one season, and his work as offensive coordinator at Alabama was a success. The flameouts at every stop are a concern, but FSU has to at least take a look.

Big moves
Mark Stoops, Kentucky

Stoops served as a defensive coordinator at Florida State under Fisher, and he has enjoyed moderate success at Kentucky over the past five seasons. This wouldn’t be a splash hire, but Stoops is a solid recruiter.
