Lady Cats Fall Short of the Final Four: 80-65

The first half was as entertaining as you get in women’s hoops, as the Cats fought tooth and nail on every possession. UConn’s strong center Stefanie Dolson went to bench with two fouls while UK Hoops ran the ball and created havoc, taking the lead in the first half. The Cats were down two at halftime due to a last minute run out right before the half time buzzer, unfortunately giving the Huskies some energy into the locker room.

For Kentucky, Bria Goss led the team in scoreing at the half with 11pts. UK also outscored UConn’s bench 20-6 in the first half with a perfect 14-14 from the free throw line.

Unfortunately UConn’s momentum carried them easily through the second have as they rolled the Wildcats. The Huskie’s started playing zone which is the Achilles’ heel of the Wildcat’s who have struggled in that game all year. Kentucky went on a no scoring drought for almost 7 minutes, all the while they couldn’t grab a rebound. Connecticut was just too strong of a team in the second half.

It was a great season for our Hoops squads, who were the outright SEC regular season champions and made it to the elite eight for the second time in three years. This team is young with a bright future, so look for them to make another strong run next season. We are proud of you ladies!
