[COLOR=Black]In a press conference, conducted earlier today, the Tennessee Volunteers announced self-imposed penalties against the mens basketball program, specifically Coach Bruce Pearl and his staff.
Mike Hamilton, the AD for UT, announced that an investigation has been going on since April 2009. The cause of the investigation stems around the apparent excessive use of phone calls and providing misleading information to the NCAA.[/COLOR] [COLOR=Black]

[*][COLOR=Black]Pearl will lose $2 million in pay over the next five years. He will take a $500k pay cut this year, $600k next year, $200k in the 12-13 year and $100k the following 2 years. Pearl will also give up a $500k retention bonus scheduled to be paid on Nov 30, 2012.[/COLOR]
[*][COLOR=Black]Pearl is banned from off-campus recruiting from Sept 24, 2010 to Sept.23, 2011.[/COLOR]
[*][COLOR=Black]Tony Jones, Steve Forbes and Jason Shay will each take a 25% pay cut beginning October 1 and will be banned from off campus recruiting for various time frames.[/COLOR]

Pearl managed to coax a laugh from the assembled media Friday afternoon when, after a fire alarm randomly came on during his appearance – right when he was admitting he provided “misleading” information to the NCAA –[/COLOR] [URL=”http://twitter.com/chrislittmann/status/24130645448″]Pearl said[/URL]: [COLOR=Black]”I want to thank my players for pulling the fire alarm.”
