Wildcats Defeat Evansville In Double OT

The Kentucky Wildcats aren’t strangers to overtime games. On Sunday, the Wildcats played in their third consecutive OT match and against Evansville, one overtime wasn’t enough. In the second overtime session, the Wildcats put an end to Evansville with a dramatic goal made by Sam Brooks. It was the first goal of his career which couldn’t have come at a better time.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

Evansville is ranked as the highest scoring team in the NCAA. Defense was definitely the key to this victory holding the Purple Aces to only 1 goal in the 108 minute match. Kentucky scored during the first half on a goal from freshman Ellis Vienne. Vienne connected on a header from senior Drew Midkiff’s corner kick for his second career goal in the 25th frame.

Evansville tied the score in the second half and that was the last goal before the double overtime ending shot by Brooks. UK senior defender David Harrison assisted on Brooks’ first career goal, a shot from 25 yards out that skidded off the bottom of the crossbar into the net for the golden goal.

Kentucky, now 3-4-1 will take on instate rival Louisville on Wednesday. GO BIG BLUE!
