The field is set for the 2018 KHSAA Class 5A Playoffs and the first round kicks off tonight.
Covington Catholic rolled to the championship last season and we think things will end much the same this season.
Here’s a look at the bracket:
Our Thoughts:
South Warren (10-0) will be favored to get out of the top half of the bracket. They could have some interesting challenges against Bowling Green (8-2) in the quarterfinals and South Oldham (9-1) or Oldham County (9-1) in the semifinals, but we expect the Spartans to make a return trip to Lexington.
On the other side of the bracket, Covington Catholic (10-0) seems to be on a another level. Of course, that is assuming the Colonels get past Highlands (8-2) in the quarterfinals. Catholic held off Highlands 21-14 in the regular season. Anderson County (10-0) could also be competitive, although they have played somewhat of a light schedule.
We could see Pulaski County (8-2) and Southwestern (8-2) doing battle for an opportunity to swing at Covington Catholic in the semifinals.
Nothing is ever a lock in high school sports, but we feel pretty good about Catholic’s chances of repeating.
Championship Game: Covington Catholic vs. South Warren
Champions: Covington Catholic
