2018 KHSAA Class 3A Playoff Preview: Boyle County Should Keep Things Rolling for Titletown

The field is set for the 2018 KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs and the first round kicks off Friday night.

Boyle County (10-0) won the title in 2017 and with several Division I prospects, the Rebels are in good position to repeat. That being said, championships are earned on the field and Boyle County will have some stiff competition along the way.

Here’s a look at the bracket:

Our thoughts:

On the top half of the bracket, it will be an upset if anyone not named Central (8-2) advances to the Lexington. The Yellow Jackets have two losses, but both of those were one-score losses to 6A schools Ballard and St. Xavier. Elizabethtown, Paducah Tilghman and Caldwell County will offer some competition, but we look for Central to play for the title.

Boyle County will be favored to repeat, but the Rebels have an extremely difficult path to Kroger Field. The first round should be light work, but Mr. Football favorite Wandale Robinson will likely be waiting in round 2. Robinson and Western Hills battled neck-and-neck with Boyle County two weeks ago before falling 54-35.

A win over Western Hills will likely send the Rebels on a 3 1/2-hour bus ride (trust me…it’ll feel like 6 hours) into far Eastern Kentucky for a war vs. Belfry (8-2). Anyone who knows anything about high school football in Kentucky will tell you that Boyle County will be lucky to get out of Belfry with a win. We think they will, but it won’t be easy.

Survive Belfry and Boyle County will almost certainly have to line up against Corbin (9-1). We have watched both teams this season and make no mistake…if it plays out this way, it could go either way. If Boyle County meets Belfry and/or Corbin, get your tickets and head to those games. Trust us, it doesn’t get much better.

We think Boyle County finds a way to get it done. We are picking the Rebels to bring more hardware back to Titletown.

Championship Prediction: Boyle County vs. Central
