The Kentucky Wildcats have several things going for them in the recruitment of 2017 star John Petty.
Petty, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, says he has been a UK fan for most of his life. So has Jack Doss, Petty’s high school coach in Alabama.
Petty remembers Calipari’s first team at UK that included John Wall along with Cousins and Eric Bledsoe, both Alabama high school products.
“I have been a Kentucky fan since I was a little kid. To finally get a chance to get recruited by them is exciting,” Petty said.
Doss is also a Kentucky fan.
“I have always been a Kentucky fan. I have been a Cawood Ledford fan since I was about 8 years old,” Doss said. “Cotton Nash, Dan Issel, Louie Dampier, Larry Conley. They were all my favorites.”
Additionally, Petty says he loves John Calipari brutal honesty during the recruiting process:
“Coach Cal is a great guy. He is always honest with me and if I decide to go there told me that I have to work hard and be competitive, which I am,” said Petty. “I will probably be a two guard in college, so I have to learn to handle the ball better. I am getting more comfortable with the ball, too.”
