2011 Football Season Predictions

With kick-off just a few days away, it is time to get serious with predictions. I want to go through the schedule game by game and give my prediction of a win or loss. I generally believe Kentucky has eight to nine winnable games on the schedule, but does not necessarily mean a win will happen in those winnable scenarios.

Vs. Western Kentucky in Nashville: WIN
There is no reason Kentucky should lose this game, should be one of the guarantees on the schedule.

Vs. Central Michigan: WIN
Central Michigan finished the 2010 season with a 3-9 record, there will be no upset here.

Vs. Louisville: WIN
The reality of this game is that Louisville is very young. I do think Charlie Strong is going to turn that program around but this year the Cats make it five in a row.

Vs. Florida: LOSE
As much as I’d like to say with confidence Kentucky can break the Gator streak, my gut tells me even with a new coach, Florida will still take home the victory.

At LSU: LOSE
First true road game of the season, and it is at LSU who has one of the most rabid college football fanbases in the country. I just don’t see it happening.

At South Carolina: LOSE
Not only will the fighting Stever Spurriers seek revenge against the Cats for their loss last year at Commonwealth, but the Gamecocks are bringing back one of the most experienced and talented teams in the country.

Vs. JacksonvilleState: WIN
This is another built in win, look for the Cats to come back strong after a tough South Carolina loss.

Vs. MississippiState: LOSE
I sooooo badly want the Cats to pull this out and I think they will have every chance to do so. In all honestly, I’d put this game as a toss up because I think it could go either way, but I also know that Kentucky has a history of dropping games they should win (see Tennessee games over the last 20+ years) and this sticks out as the game that will haunt them of the season.

Vs. Ole Miss: WIN
A bounce back victory over a decent Ole Miss team will restore some confidence in the Cats.

At Vanderbilt: WIN
The game will be boring; it will probably be played at 1pm and not shown on TV. In the end, this is the game that will make Kentucky bowl eligible….the Cats bring home the W.

At Georgia: LOSE
If there is an away SEC game to win this season, this would be it for the Cats. Last time Morgan Newton took the field between the hedges, he lead his team to victory. I think Georgia will come out stronger this time and the Cats will fall short.

Vs. Tennessee: WIN
I am going to throw this out there, THIS.IS.THE.YEAR. I know what you are thinking, last year was the year, and so was the year before. Yes, Kentucky has managed to choke so many times versus UT over the last several seasons but if there is ever a shot, at home, the Cats need to take care of business.

Overall record: 7-5

Cats will make it to a bowl once again; Joker will have improved upon last year’s record and finally gotten the Tennessee streak off of Kentucky’s back. Obviously some of these games might go either way, so I wouldn’t be shocked to see 6-6 or maybe even 8-4, but I do think fans will be happy with 7-5.

How do you think the Cats will do this season, let me hear your predictions BBN?
