• On most days, the defense could probably gain more yards.

Well, I said earlier today that Kentucky would lose by 40. But wait! I also said last week that the team would put up a fight. Which means a) I have no idea what the hell I'm talking about, and b) if you hedge enough, you will always be at least partially right. Stick with me, kiddos. You'll go places.

So what happened? Well, the UK defense absolutely put up a fight in an outstanding performance, allowing just over 300 yards and forcing 4 turnovers, while giving up only 19 points. On most days, that would be more than enough to get the win.

Unfortunately, the Kentucky defense is on the same team as the Kentucky offense, who once again forgot to get off the bus, managing just 165 yards (23 rushing yards. Twenty-three.) and giving up 4 turnovers of their own while sputtering to a 10-point day. Remember how much we complained about the 12-yard second quarter last week? We obviously didn't know how good we had it. The third quarter today saw the Wildcats get all of 2 yards. I have no words.

So what does this all mean? For starters, the bowl streak has ended. The team is left playing for pride now. Well, the defense anyway. If anyone on the offense is proud, they should be drug tested. There is still a chance to end the Tennessee streak, but we all know how that goes. As for Joker, this didn't help his cause. The defense once again played great, which they have more often than not this year, while the offense looked putrid once again, just like they have in 9 of 11 games. To me, that says the team hasn't improved since week 1. I'm pretty sure that's not a good thing.

For more numbers, here is ESPN's recap.

Don't worry. Barnhart will see that we competed and that shows improvement. He won't mention that Kentucky normally plays Georgia close because half our roster is from Georgia and they play hard. The offense, which Joker bragged was his speciality, sucks. It goes beyond Randy Sanders, I say we clean house. I don't care if we beat Tennessee or not. Tennessee sucks too. Beating them means nothing. Everyone needs to go. Minter too, Trevathan and Guy make him look good. Next year Kentucky wins 3 games, might as well start building next year with a quality coach.

I would love to know who yall think we can get if we clean house. What coach would want to come here and show us loyalty when we cant even give one of our own time to get his team in here. This is his second year as head coach, he is bringing in a nice recruiting class and they are the players he wants. We lost a hell of alot last year and I realy dont think people realize that. Joker is one of our own and I for one will give him as much time as he needs. People where saying the same things when Rich Brooks started and look how that turned out. Im sure yall are just fair weather fans any ways dont even know why Im waisting my time. GO BIG BLUE!!!

FAIRWEATHER!!! Who's fairweather? ME??? You come out and "appear" to support the coach when they have a good game, where were you when we were getting our a$$es handed to us by Vandy last week, or 4 out of the previous 6 weeks before that??? You weren't so blatantly supportive of Joker then were you? If you are so damn supportive, tell me then Benedict, why didn't you support Joker with this post after our team got a brazillian wax job by Steve Spurrier and Co. in Columbia with a BACKUP QUARTERBACK a few weeks ago? Why weren't you hurling stones then? The type of fan you are kills me, calling everyone else fairweather, when you only come out after a game when the "weather has been fair" so to speak! I hear Loserville is looking for fans, why don't you join them? You'd fit in better. Fairweather fan!

So apparently Rootie Patootie has been the recruiting coordinator for the last few years, and not Joker Phillips? This is his team through and through, and he's been in the program longer than 2 years. People forget that sometimes. That's why I have no problem letting him go. If he were a true "outsider", I'd say give him another year. He's not, he helped create this mess. Get off the teat.

You sir are an idiot. Joker has been here for 9 years not two. And Kentucky isn't the most prestigous job, but it is a job in the SEC and that is desirable for some people. And whoever we get can't be worse than this mess. Rich Brooks stepped into the worst job in the country, so of course he got more time. Joker inherited mediocrity and he has made it terrible. And Joker's "good" recruiting class is full of three and two stars. Thats good for about 10th in the SEC. And since we don't have good enough coaches to develop the kids anyway it doesn't matter. Your attitude is what is holding this program back. I am sure you won't respond because you know you are an idiot, and you have no real, tangible evidence as to why Joker should stay other than he is "one of our own".

As I said Joker has been the HEAD COACH for 2 years and I guss Im an idiot because i believe in our coach. I dont have time to coment on every post and that is why I havent comented on other games. I would love to know how you know that whoever else we get cant be worse. I understand that the recruiting class is full of 2 and 3 star kids but guss what that is going to be one of Kentuckys best recruiting classes ever. Kentucky is not a big time football program and we dont have alot to offer that is why we dont get the 4 and 5 star kids, plus rankings are overated any ways. Do you remember what rank Cobb was or Locke maybe Tammie how about Burton, Braxton Kelly, Trevathen, I could go on but I think you get my point. Kentucky has gone to a few bowl games and now all our fair weather fans feel some entitlement to go every year. Dont get me wrong we all want our team to go to a bowl game every year but when you lose all the players that we lost last year your going to have a down year. Just look at Florida or Auburn power house football programs lose alot off their teams and now they are having horrible years to their standards but none of their fans are saying clean house fire, the coach. This isnt basketball folks it takes time to build a program and firing a coach after a down year is not the way to build a program.

Go take a look at some Florida or Auburn message boards and see what you get. As for "building a program", this was a program on the way up. Joker has dismantled it. Sure, we lost some playmakers, and yes, some of UK's recent stars like Cobb, Locke, etc. weren't blue-chippers coming in. Guess what? Used to be, those non-blue chippers were developed into All-SEC players. That hasn't happened in Joker's 2 years. You have Trevathan and Guy, name me another player who has come on to make a lasting impression under Joker's watch. Again, I want Joker to coach in 17 bowl games, but I don't think he is a good enough coach to. Which is why I want change. It's that simple.

So your the kind of fan that will say Joker has been here for more than 2 years but wont give him credit for the players he developed while he was a OC, just what he hasnt done this year, because if I am correct he went to a bowl game in his first year as head coach. I guess that isnt good enough. Im sure you where one of the fans that wanted Newton over Hartline in Jokers first year then turned right around the next year and wanted Smith. Maybe yall should give this man a chance to prove him self then make your conclusion. Or just keep being fair weather fans and come back and cheer for Kentucky when we go back to another bowl game.

HatersLoveUs502 is clueless. Joker has had his time. We will be lucky if any recruits still want to come here if he stays. We all have nothing against Joker personally or against the fact he went to UK but he just didn't perform or even improve up to the standards i think we need to have at UK and in the SEC.

MIKE LEACH FOR UK'S NEXT FOOTBALL COACH!!

Homeskillet, I've cheered for this team since the Curry years. I'm only 31, and didn't get into football until I was 12 or so, or it would be longer. I'm not a fairweather fan. Hell, I root for the Arizona Cardinals, if that tells you anything. What I am, however, is a fan who watches the team regardless of how good they are, and therefore reserves the right to complain about subpar results. Joker Phillips is not a good head coach. He's a decent recruiter and offensive coordinator, but he is not enough of a motivator to be successful long term. And that's the vast majority of what a head coach does, motivate and prepare his team. Tell me how many times in 2 seasons this team has been motivated and/or prepared. Keep him on staff, name him AD, make him the friggin' provost for all I care. Fact is, his head coaching abilities can't overcome the talent deficiency he faces week to week. Maybe somewhere else, like the PAC12 or Big East. Not in the SEC though. Rich Brooks knew how to get the most out of what he had. Joker Phillips does not. And until he figures out how, he will struggle.
