Marlana VanHoose was born blind and diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a toddler, but that doesn’t stop her from sharing her incredible gift with others. Marlana has appeared at numerous events around the state including the NASCAR Quaker State 400 race and Kentucky Special Olympics opening ceremonies. Her voice sometimes moves people to tears.

Marlana treated 6,333 members of the Big Blue Nation to a soaring rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner prior to the tip of today’s UK hoops game against LSU at Memorial Coliseum. Following the game the coaches, women’s basketball team, dance team and cheerleaders joined Marlana in a moving performance of My Old Kentucky Home.

About the Author

Regina Rickert
I am a writer and photographer covering UK and local athletic events for Nation of Blue. I started out as a media contact for the Berea College News Service, sending out press releases to hometown newspapers. This led to covering Berea men's basketball and writing game summaries for a nearby Richmond newspaper. I eventually combined my love of sports with my passion for photography. I began shooting UK athletics in 2010.
