On how he liked the food in China…
It was different. There were different varieties of food since they use different ingredients than we do. Just like the spices they use are totally different than we use here.”
On the benefit of international competition over pick-up games…
“It gets you more prepared for the season since it’s more realistic than pick-up games. We have great competition here in pick-up games but as far as actually playing basketball like it’s going to be played in the season, it was a great experience.”
On the experiences he’s been able to have because of basketball…
“I’m from a small town so we didn’t have high level experiences like this so I never dreamed of being in the situations I’ve been in. Especially in the past couple years, getting to play at the level I’ve been playing at – I never dreamed it’d be like this.”
On whether or not he had time to sight-see…
“Not really, we saw a little bit. Just being over there was a great experience and we saw a lot of stuff that was totally different. We didn’t have a lot of time to see things like the Great Wall of China. They said it was five hours away from where we were staying.”
On what China was like from the view of a tourist…
“It was a very nice place where we were. They said the city we were in had about 20 million people in it and that there are about three cities that have 20 million people. The overall experience was just crazy.”
On how seeing the third-world parts of China changed his views…
“I feel like we take a lot of things for granted here, honestly. We couldn’t even drink the water in our rooms. I feel like a lot of people in the United States take things for granted so it really opens your eyes to see how fortunate we are to live here.”
