• The University of Kentucky women's volleyball team opened the season with a blue/white scrimmage on Sunday at Memorial Coliseum.

    The 2011 season gets underway on Friday with two matches in Tallahassee, Florida. The Cats will face Albany at 11:00 a.m. and Florida State at 7:00 p.m.

    LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Kentucky volleyball team kicked off the 2011 season with an inter-squad scrimmage in front of a terrific crowd Sunday afternoon at Memorial Coliseum. UK exchanged players throughout the three-set successful session as the Wildcats competed for approximately an hour.

    Freshman Lauren O'Conner put on an offensive display for the Wildcat faithful. The Taylor Mill, Ky., product combined for 16 kills and a pair of blocks on the afternoon. Junior Ashley Frazier contributed 11 kills, four digs and a trio of blocks in her first official action with the Blue and White.

    Reigning SEC Libero of the Year Stephanie Klefot provided her steady defensive prowess with 16 digs while adding six assists. Setters Christine Hartmann and Elizabeth Koberstein combined to pass out 65 assists.

    Senior Ann Armes led the way at the net with four blocks to lead all Wildcats. Freshman Jessy Hoeschler paced the service line with a team-high two aces.

    UK will hit the floor to open the 2011 regular season on Friday, Aug. 26 with a pair of matches. The Wildcats face Albany in the opening match of the season at 11 a.m. ET in Tallahassee, Fla., at the Florida State Invitational. Later that day, Kentucky takes the floor against the host Seminoles at 7 p.m. Kentucky will wrap up non-conference action away from home with a 1:30 p.m. ET first serve against No. 23 Tulsa on Aug. 27.

    The Blue and White will begin its home slate on Aug. 30 with Cincinnati traveling to Memorial Coliseum. Match time is set for 7 p.m. ET.

    Kentucky's Memorial Coliseum will play host to the NCAA Regionals Dec. 9-10. UK is one of four sites selected for Sweet 16 and Elite Eight matchups with one team advancing to the Final Four in San Antonio, Texas, from the Lexington Region. Tickets are on sale now through the UK Ticket Office.
