Texas Recruiting Trips Takes Unexpected Turn For Calipari

Calipari recently had a recruiting trip to Texas for an in home visit with recruit De’Aaron Fox, the #1 PG in the Class of 2016.

What should have been a standard run-of-the-mill recruiting trip turned into a night that one lucky University of Kentucky basketball fan will never forget.

Seth Barnett, a 16 year old junior at Cypress Lakes High School, was born in Kentucky and moved to Texas about month old. Both parents grew up in Magoffin County and Seth, who has cerebral palsy, grew up a Wildcats fan.

De’Aaron and his coach asked if Seth would like to come to De’Aaron’s house that night and meet Calipari.

“The first thing he did was walk over and start talking to Seth about the Kentucky Wildcat shirt he had on — just like he knew him forever,” Carol said. “De’Aaron and his family — they just made us feel so welcome.”

Calipari, Kenny Payne and Fox all posed for photos with Seth and signed a blue leather UK jacket.

“That was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Seth. … It’s like a dream. It’s like it’s not really real.”

This is how amazing the kids are that Calipari recruits, on and off the court they are doing great things. De’Aaron didn’t have to invite Seth to meet Calipari and be involved in his recruiting visit but he knew this was going to be something Seth would never forget.
