Perry Central’s Justin Johnson and Braxton Beverly are not only two of the top players in the Mountains of Eastern Kentucky, but have made a lot of noise in the Nike EYBL with the Kentucky Travelers this summer.

Braxton, a 2016 point guard, can’t wait to get to the Peach Jam.

“We are excited for it, that is all we have been talking about. We are ready to be in that atmosphere with all the college coaches and the best players in the nation.”

Beverly also spoke about how tough the competition is every game in the EYBL.

“Every game you have to be ready, there are no easy teams to play against. Every team has some of the top players in the nation and will probably play D1.”

Braxton mentioned some of the top players he had to play against, including Kentucky 2014 recruit Tyus Jones.

“Two of the toughest players I had to play were Tyus Jones and Grayson Allen. Tyus is the #1 point guard, he is so good that he can score or he can dish to his teammates and he can hurt you in many different ways. He never takes a bad shot and it is just hard to stop him.”

Even though Braxton will just be a sophomore next season, he has already received a lot of attention from D1 schools.

Western Kentucky, Northern Kentucky, Samford and Marshall have all extended offers. He has also received interest from Indiana, Butler, Virginia and Tennessee.

Justin, a 6’6″ 2014 power forward, is equally excited about the trip to Georgia and feels honored to make the Peach Jam.

“The Travelers haven’t made it since 2006 and we had a rough year last year, but coming back and qualifying for Peach Jam in my last year is a real honor. I have been talking to all the players and we are all excited to practice and are ready. We are ready to go and win some game down there.”

Justin was also on the Kentucky Junior All Star team and after the Kentucky Senior All Stars were embarrassed by Indiana in Freedom Hall, he wants to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen to the team next summer.

“It makes us(juniors) want to work harder so we will be able to get them next year because we don’t want to go out there and get beat like that.”

Johnson said that he has 18 offers but the schools that are hot right now are Western Kentucky, Winthrop, Oklahoma State, Boston College, Virginia Tech and Tennessee. He said he will be visiting Virginia Tech on June 22nd and also Western Kentucky June 28th and 29th. He plans to narrow his list down to 5 in the fall and take official visits to all of those schools. He said he will try and make his decision in the fall.

Justin Johnson and Braxton Beverly will be a force in Kentucky High School basketball in the upcoming season and making the trip to compete at the Peach Jam will definitely help them in their upcoming season and their future in college basketball.
