It’s time to get a look at the 2017 recruiting class John Calipari put together for the 2017-18 basketball season. Not including Hamidou Diallo, there will be 7 new faces on the court for the Wildcats this season.
Calipari, as usual, lost a lot of talent from last season to the 2017 NBA Draft, forcing him to find a plethora of talent to rebuild his team. First, let’s meet on of the fresh faces we’ll see this season.
We’ve already met PJ Washington, so next up for meeting the freshmen is big guy Nick Richards.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, and spending his last few years at The Patrick School in Hillside, New Jersey, Richards has a lot to offer the Wildcats this season. He is a 6-11, 239 lb center, pretty comparable to former Wildcat Willie Cauley-Stein build-wise. Oddly enough, he has a similar story to Cauley-Stein, too, as his primary sport was not basketball growing up, in fact, Richards is relatively new to basketball. Although new to basketball, Richards was given a 5-star ranking, was named a McDonald’s All-American and was ranked 16th overall for the 2017 class by ESPN. Richards also had offers from Arizona and Syracuse.
