It’s time to get a look at the 2017 recruiting class John Calipari put together for the 2017-18 basketball season. Not including Hamidou Diallo, there will be 7 new faces on the court for the Wildcats this season.
Calipari, as usual, lost a lot of talent from last season to the 2017 NBA Draft, forcing him to find a plethora of talent to rebuild his team. First, let’s meet on of the fresh faces we’ll see this season.
First up for meeting the freshmen, PJ Washington: Actually born in Louisville, Kentucky, but growing up in Dallas, Texas, and playing basketball at Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada, Washington has a lot to offer the Wildcats this season. He is a 6-9, 230 lb power forward who got to play for Team USA in Egypt with John Calipari this summer, giving him a bit of a taste of what it’ll be like playing for Calipari in Lexington.
In his last season with Findaly Prep, Washington was averaging over 16 points per game, 4 assists and over 9 rebounds.
In addition to playing for Team USA this summer, Washington played was given a 5-star ranking and like many former Wildcats, Washington was named a McDonald’s All- American and was able to play with his future teammates in Chicago.
Washington was ranked 11th overall for the 2017 class by ESPN and had scholarship offers from Arizona, North Carolina State, North Carolina, Texas, UCLA and UNLV, before ultimately choosing to play for John Calipari and Co. in Lexington.
