James Young Named SEC Freshman of the Week

James Young has been named SEC Freshman of the Week after posting 18 points and 10 rebounds against Louisville.

Missouri’s Jordan Clarkson, a 6-foot-5, 193-pound junior small forward from San Antonio, Texas, was named SEC Player of the Week after leading Missouri with 21 points in a 68-64 win at North Carolina State. Clarkson topped the 20 point mark for the eighth time in 12 games while dishing out four assists in the road win. Attacked the rim against the Wolfpack and hit 9-of-10 free throws. Also hit two 3-pointers in the final nine minutes with the Tigers trailing by 10. His second trey put the Tigers up 60-59.

Kentucky’s James Young, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound freshman guard/forward from Rochester Hills, Mich., was named SEC Freshman of the Week after recording his first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds against sixth-ranked Louisville. Led the Wildcats in scoring (18), rebounding (10) and assists (4) against the Cardinals. He set new career marks in rebounding and assists. With the game tied at 53, Young drilled a 3-pointer to spark a 13-3 UK run and the ‘Cats never led that fewer than five points the rest of the way.
