Jamal Murray’s Teammate Thinks the Future Kentucky Guard is “Incredible”

Carl English, who currently plays with AEK Athens of the Greek League, is on the Canadian Pan American roster with Kentucky guard Jamal Murray and he can’t believe how he is holding his own with the more experienced players on the team.

“First of all, Jamal is incredible,” English said. “He’s an incredible talent. I follow most of the kids when I’m away (overseas) and then you come in (to this setting) and you see he’s really good.

“I mean, I think he’s a lot further ahead than most people understand. When he’s here training with us and playing against men, he’s holding his own,” English said. “That, to me, is the most incredible thing. Everyone knows his talent, but he’s holding his own right now.”

Murray has yet to play a minute of NCAA basketball, but that will come soon enough as he’s committed to Kentucky and will likely follow that long line of one-and-done Wildcats after next season.

To date, the Kitchener native has been seeing most of his action with Orangeville’s Athlete Institute following his high school days at Grand River Collegiate Institute.

There had been some speculation if Murray would start at point guard, but this report makes it seem like he will get a lot of minutes without being in the starting lineup.
