Military, first responders honored at annual event
LEXINGTON, Ky. – UK Athletics will host Heroes’ Day for Saturday’s football game against Charlotte, which will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at The New Commonwealth Stadium. All active, reserve and veteran members of the armed forces along with police, firefighters and first responders will be honored at the annual event.
Among the tentative plans for the day are a football-field sized American flag for the national anthem, which will be presented by the UK Air Force ROTC and UK Army ROTC, recognition of personnel throughout the game and military VIPs in attendance. The national anthem will be performed by Kentucky State Trooper Billy Gregory. Kentuckians who gave their lives in the line of duty will be honored on the video boards pregame during the playing of “My Old Kentucky Home.”
UK Athletics is pleased to honor heroes by providing two free tickets to service members. Service members with a service ID can pick up two tickets for the game on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at Commonwealth Stadium will call, located between gates 9 and 10, while supplies last.
