Alex Poythress is one of the top Kentucky targets for the 2012 class and it sounds like he could be making his college decision soon.

Adam Zagorida spoke to Poythress' AAU coach Norm Parker:

As for the 6-8 Poythress, he is considering Kentucky, Florida, Memphis and Vanderbilt, and finished his last visit to Memphis two weekends ago.

“They gotta make their decision,” Norm Parker said. “I couldn’t tell you who the favorite was with either one. I want them to go where they want to go.

“Both got great schools, good coaches. I don’t see how they can make a bad decision.”

I heard from a source today that Poythress is favoring Memphis right now.

That really surprised me since it had been reported that Kentucky and Vanderbilt were his top 2.

Maybe his last visit, which was to Pastner and the Tigers, made a huge impression on the 6'8" forward from Clarksville, TN.

I think Kentucky still has a great shot at Poythress, but don't be surprised if he picks Memphis.

I will be totally surprised if he picks Memphis, and be extremly angry haha. This kid was one of the many targets for UK that I wanted most to sign with UK. I still can't see him going to Memphis over UK or even Vandy. Anyone think the Amile Jefferson or Shabazz is playing a role in "Memphis being favorite"?

Hmmm, tough ones. I'll go with Kentucky and Purdue, respectively. @jeffborzello on where he thinks Alex Poythress and Gary Harris will land.

One thing is for sure and that's the fact that Pastner, much like Calipari, Sean Miller and Scott Drew, is a great recruiter who is also seen as a player's coach. While I would not be surprised to see him pick Memphis, I do believe that the young man will end up at Kentucky when all is said and done. Then again, when Poythress didn't commit shortly after Midnight Madness, maybe Calipari foreseen the potential draw of Memphis and turned his eyes on Jefferson as one hell of a back-up plan (if it could be called such).

I believe we will find out soon on his decison... On a unbiased basis, does Memphis compare to UK in any aspect? Does Pastner compare to Cals status? What are almost all of college athletes goals in college? To go PRO! Not all but the majority. This kid has the potential to be a NBA player, and I dont think there is many coaches out there that have the ability to bring out what might not be shown at first, and get them to that level. JMO

Memphis has two NBA players on its staff, another who worked with the Nuggets and a strength coach who trains NBA guys like Blake Griffin. They play in an NBA arena as well.

Live in Clarksville and a graduate of Vanderbilt, so I would be biased to say, "go to Vandy young man". However, having intimate knowledge of the situation via his family, I'll say right now he'll be wearing blue but not UK blue.

Hopefully Alex will not be gullible & get sucked in by Pastner's fluff! Alex needs to talk with some of last year's freshmen at Memphis which very much underachieved. Pastner is about flash & glamor but that's as deep as it gets.

Excuse me but this is not CatsPause. Please come back to reality. You mention "underachieved", yet Cal had 5, that's 5 first-round picks and couldn't make it to the Final Four? You talk about flash and glamor? Seems like you're gullible as hell. Cal will NEVER win a championship while at UK. To take your words, all "flash and glamor", with no substance or championships.

he's been there two years!!!! His first year was an elite 8! Last year final 4! Name another coach that has had that much success in such a short time! This year will be an undefeated championship season!

Cal is the main reason any recruit would want to come to UK. What he does is basically "babysit" a top recruit for a yr. before they move on to the pros. Very little coaching is involved. Lets just say that most of these high level recruits are so good that Cal can't ruin them in a year's time. However, he gets more credit than he deserves from unintelligent basketball minds such as yourself and the majority of his robots in BBN.

With that level of talent, I could sit on the sideline, pretend to coach and do the same or better. Cal will NEVER win a championship. Keep dreaming.
