Whether or not he is or he is NOT worthy you HAVE TO put him up there just for the sheer importance he made in making UK the IT school again.

If there is a recent point guard that deserves his jersey retired it easily Rajon Rondo. He is a Kentucky native and is one of the best PG's in the NBA...John Wall is a crafty PG...Rondo set the pace though...Perhaps both jerseys deserve this honor
There are several older posts on this topic that I must agree with. Athletes such as Prince, Bogans, Mashburn, Pat Riley, Chuck Hayes, P-Pat and others deserve this honor before Wall does. John was a highly recruited player and is extremely talented and crafty with the basketball. While one and dones may bring a spark back to the greatest school in college basketball, it is the players that stayed with us and showed thier devotion to the school and to the program that deserve thier number retired. There are too many in this list. In short, My immediate vote is for Rondo...secondly for Riley...of course I am a touch bias since I grew up in Schenectady
I do not think that a "One and Done" player should be given that honor. We have had many players who have had one great season and not make it. He should have stuck around instead of just using UK to further his personal goals.
NO! I loved the kid and he was without a doubt our only number 1 overall draft pick in the NBA, and although he brought much excitement to CATS fans, I dont see as how we could retire his jersey and not others who gave it everything they had here for three to four years, such as Darius Miller.....Kentucky boy, who has made it to an elite 8, final 4, and MVP of the SEC tournament
No. There is noone on the Cats in the Calipari era that has done enough for the program to have their number retired. That s just like, there are alot of great prospects out there but Cal doesn't recruit everyone. There are alot of Cats in the Cal era that have done great things (many have done more than Wall) but none of them deserve to have the jers retired.
I'm not sure if not worthy is the right term or not. Wall is a great player and I'm very grateful that he came to Kentucky. Now if Wall would have stayed 3 to 4 years with Coach Cal and helped taken the cats to a Championship. I would say 100% yes!!!
There shouldn't be a timeline for how long a players stays at Kentucky to qualify their jersey in the rafters. It should be based on the individual player and how that player made everyone around him better. Wall did create but Wall scored more than any point guard that I can remember. Mostly because he had to early on in the season because it was a very talented but very inexperienced team. Wall was an amazing point guard for a year and his numbers are great for a year and he would have had record crushing numbers if he stayed. The numbers for a career don't support a jersey being retired. If he took KY on his back during the West Virginia game and closed that season with a championship or a finals berth than we might be talking a little differently.
I voted no. I loved watching him play for us, but I don't think he qualifies as one of UK's all time greats. He'd have to have accomplished more. Even if that team had won the championship, there were several other very talented players around him, so I don't think retiring just his jersey is justified. That's the team that had 5 guys drafted in the first round, so his accomplishments have to be viewed with that in mind.
Without a doubt. In one year we went from playing in the NIT to making it to the elite 8, with a team of greats led by John Wall. It's not Wall's fault the the current NCAA rules allowed him to leave after one year. Why wouldn't he? He was the number one overall pick after all. There is no doubt in my mind that Wall's jersey should be hung in the rafters. Wall, along with the other great players on that team, brought us back to national prominence and helped set the stage to get us to the point we are today, not to mention the influence he has on future recruits considering committing to UK. Retire Wall's jersey. On another note, I also agree Patterson's jersey should be retired.
