    Room for 2011 recruits?

With all of the recruits coming in this year, only one senior (correct me if I'm wrong), and the possible NBA lock out. Will we have enough spots for the awesome classes of 2011 we have lined up?

    Re: Room for 2011 recruits?

as of right now we have 3 scholarships open, which allows us to take on teague and gilchrist without problem, and then next year with harellson leaving after next year we will be able to fit two more recruits into the roster, possibly people like wroten, o'bryant, or (quincy) miller. also if cal wants a truly star studded class he could go through another roster purge. but dont forget about possible one and dones (alot less likely than last year) or transfers to other schools like dodson was considering this year. i think the 2011 roster will consist of (if there is a lockout): 1)miller, 2)dodson, 3)hood, 4)liggins,5) knight, 6)lamb, 7)kanter, 8)vargas, 9)polson, 10)poole, 11)gilchrist, 12)teague, 13)wroten/o'bryant/miller. this roster would only be true if we didnt get another 2010 recruit to take the 13 position. as you can tell it will be a truly star studded roster. miller dodson and ligglins will give us the experience for being number 1, vargas will add additional expirence, our 2010 freshman (2011 sophomores) will have had a season to learn how to mesh together and hone their skills, the 2011 class will provide depth and people to take pressure off of the 2010 studs, and their fellow 2011 freshman, and hood+polson will be our fan favorite Kentucky boys ready to come out and play with passion to get the crowd going. after all is said and done i predict a 2011-2012 national championship banner hanging in rupp arena. whats your guys' thoughts?

I believe Dotson will be a senior next year. So he and Harrellson will complete their elgibility after next season. I doubt that we sign more than two more players this year. If Moutre doesn't transfer here, make that one more. Of course, if we sign Moutre and a power forward, then Jones wants to come here, too, he's too good not to find a scholarship for. If there is an NBA lock out next year, we could run short of scholarships, but that's not the worst problem for a team to have.

dodson will be a junior next year, the 2009-2010 roster is av available at so we should have only one scholarship become available other than the ones we will leave open (if we do leave any open)

You're right, (will)dcats. Dotson was listed as a sophomore by the UK Athletics site and by Rivals (on Kentucky's 2009-10 roster.) According to Rivals, he graduated from high school in 2007 and originally signed with Pittsburg. This is what I was going by when I made the assumption that he would be a senior next year. He must have sat out a year somewhere. Does ahyone have details on this?

would it be possible that he would move some players to a jv team if that were to go through. would be able to bring in more top of the line players and everybody gets to play?

big blue fan 1, that's a good thought. Having a jv team would open make more minutes available. The problem is we are only allowed to have 13 players on basketball scholarship in any school year. Having a jv team wouldn't make any more scholarships available. I know this wasn't your question, but just thought it ought to be addressed due to the overall content of this thread. BTW, I can remember when a school was allowed to have 30 players on scholarship. Freshmen weren't elgible to play on the varsity then, and schools would have a freshman team as well as a varsity team. Then someone had the bright idea of making freshmen elgible and reducing the number of scholarships to 15. This was to prevent schools like Kentucky from stockpiling good players. It also reduced the number of basketball players who got a chance to gewt a free education. Later the number was reduced again from 15 to the present 13.
