The Sporting News' Mike DeCourcy talks about the Cat's road to the Final Four and what stands in the way, namely themselves.
Kentucky’s players were driven to answer the challenge Florida promised, and they could not have responded more emphatically. They were ordered to stay home on the dangerous UF perimeter shooters; UK held them to 6-of-27 from long range. They were instructed to execute their offense patiently; 18 of their 29 field goals resulted from assists, including two game-breaking 3-pointers from Lamb at the close of the first half.
Point guard Marquis Teague delivered a 12-point, 10-assist double-double that guided coach John Calipari to interrupt his own effusive praise of stars Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to say, “What about Marquis Teague? He is playing, getting everybody shots. He ended the half Doron 3, Doron 3. He got him those shots.”For all they’d been promised about the difference in class of opponents, however, the results were the same: an overwhelming, lopsided win.
Kentucky has the steepest steps of their ascent to the National Title ahead of them, but they are well conditioned for the climb.
