Eric Lindsey of Coach Cal.com has written another descriptive report from Monday's practice and a couple of things that I wanted to note.

Coach Cal wants Marquis Teague and Darius Miller to shoot more in games.

    Here are the excerpts:

Speaking of Teague, Calipari told him to take the open jumper if teams give it to him. “I have confidence in you, Marquis,” Calipari said. “You’re not playing for jumpers, but if they give it to you, take them.”

Miller, as he often does, made the most, sinking 68 shots. Calipari was impressed but wondered why Miller passes up shots during the game when he’s proven time and time again he can knock them down.

I think every one will agree that Darius Miller should shoot more, but I am surprised about Teague.

Do you think Teague should shoot more? I understand telling him that you have confidence in him, I just think he excels going to the basket as he did vs. South Carolina.

I agree miller should shoot more but not teague. Teague should go to the basket that's his game imo.

If you don't hit those open jumpers the other team can just drop back 6 feet and wait for you to try to drive to the basket. Lots of teams will even turn their backs when guys shoot mid-range jumpers just to get in the shooter's head and make him think he can't shoot. After all the other teams don't even guard him when he shoots. That stuff works too. I had a pro player teach that trick to me. Teague has to learn to be a threat to hit those shots to keep defenses honest. Our high school coach used to say if you couldn't hit a 15 ft. jump shot you had no business playing basketball. He won a whole bunch of games coaching players that way. It's a lot like Pitino's "shoot or transfer" statement only Cal is much more subtle about such things.
