TENNESSEE 74, BAYLOR 65

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.(AP) -- Shekinna Stricklen had 25 points and 14 rebounds, and No. 8 Tennessee beat No. 7 Baylor 74-65 on Sunday in the State Farm Tip-Off Classic. All the buzz entering the game was about Brittney Griner, the Lady Bears' celebrated recruit who dunked in an exhibition game.

The 6-foot-8 Griner dunked a few times in warmups and scored 15 points, but never got close enough to the rim for a chance to dunk during the game.

The Lady Volunteers (1-0) used a combination of post players - who spent much of the game in foul trouble - to shut down Griner.

Stricklen hit a fast-break layup on a steal and assist from Kamiko Williams to cap a 14-2 run that gave the Lady Vols a 52-38 lead with 9:49 left. Baylor (0-1) got within nine points several times.

Melissa Jones led Lady Bears with 21 points.

No. 21 Georgia, 62, No. 13 Oklahoma 51

ATHENS, Ga.(AP) -- Porsha Phillips and Jasmine James each scored 15 points and No. 21 Georgia held off No. 13 Oklahoma's second-half comeback for a 62-51 victory Sunday.

Georgia led by 13 points early in the second half only to see Oklahoma pull even at 43 with 6:48 remaining. The Lady Bulldogs (1-0) regained the lead on Meredith Mitchell's three-point play.

Oklahoma (1-1), a Final Four team last season, never led against its first Top 25 opponent since the end of the Courtney Paris era. The Sooners have to replace Paris, the NCAA's all-time rebounding leader, and her sister, Ashley.

Whitney Hand led Oklahoma with 13 points, while Abi Olajuwon had 10 points and nine rebounds.

No. 9 LSU, 92, Centenary, 19

BATON ROUGE, La.(AP) -- Allison Hightower scored 20 points before sitting for most of the second half and No. 9 LSU ran away to a 92-19 victory over Centenary on Sunday.

The 73-point margin of victory was the second-largest in LSU history, three shy of the 104-28 victory over Prairie View A&M on Dec. 1, 1995.

Hightower, the SEC preseason player of the year, hit all four of her 3-point attempts, putting her halfway to her total for the entire 2008-09 season. LSU (1-0) finished 10 of 17 from 3-point range.

Centenary (0-2) had more than twice as many turnovers (21) as points in trailing 51-9 at halftime.

Both teams looked sloppy early, and LSU coach Van Chancellor called a timeout with a 3-2 lead just 2:17 into the game.

Hightower then hit two 3-pointers in less than a minute, and the Lady Tigers were rolling.

Centenary finished with 33 turnovers.
