Eddie Gran Has No Interest in Other Jobs as He Closes in on New Deal with UK

Offensive coordinator Eddie Gran squashed rumors today that he might be looking for a head coaching job.

Gran told SECCountry.com that he is perfectly happy in Lexington and is close to agreeing to a new deal with the Wildcats.

Here is an excerpt:

Gran is in his first year at Kentucky after previously working with coach Mark Stoops for three seasons at Florida State. The veteran coordinator who’s made SEC stops at Auburn, Tennessee and Ole Miss no longer feels the need to validate himself by becoming the boss.

“There were times in my career I chased it,” Gran said. “I just don’t feel I have to do that anymore. I’m as happy as I’ve ever been. I love Lexington.”

In a wide ranging conversation with SEC Country alongside Gran, Stoops said the two have already had discussions about a new contract.

“We want to lock him up and pay him what top coordinators deserve to be paid,” Stoops said.

Gran makes $650,000 per year. While he’s the highest-paid Kentucky assistant, that makes him the 19th highest-paid SEC assistant — 38th nationally, according to USA Today’s salary database.
