• Mike Hartline was arrested and has received a ton of criticism from UK fans all around Big Blue Nation. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the arrest, it is a terrible end to the Wildcat career of a quarterback who hasn't ever received much love. Now, it appears as if his toughest critics may have to take another look at the case.

NFL Draft Bible has reported the following:
The NFL Draft Bible has learned that there are several un-reported facts involving the recent arrest of Kentucky senior quarterback Mike Hartline, the younger brother of Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brian Hartline, as sources have revealed that Hartline, who was arrested for disorderly conduct and alcohol intoxication, was protecting his girlfriend as both were being verbally confronted prior to the arrest and he was attempting to get her out of a bad situation that continued to escalate.

Was this a case of a high profile young man being arrested for breaking the law, but without the entire story being told? If Hartline was protecting his girlfriend from being harmed, could that justify some of his actions?

I didnt think he should have been suspended for the whole game. He made a mistake and everyone makes mistakes. he worked hard the whole time he was there.
i think he should have been suspended the 1st quarter and that is it

He should not have been drinking at all. He is a representative of the University of Kentucky, is this how we want to portray our school? If so, say goodbye to any blue chip recruits and respectability.

He was still drunk when arrested. If he WAS protecting her, that's great and all, but still an unfortunate situation.

I think if he was protecting someone his actions are justified. Everyone has had poor judgement in their past. He never should have been took out of the whole game. He may not be a superstar, but he has done what he needed to do at Kentucky.

If you think that no student athlete ever drinks, even the high profile ones, then you are in some kind of storybook that has no sense of what really goes on. Some just get caught, as in this case with Hartline. Do all of them drink, I would say no. Do those that drink act out like jackasses, not always. Do those drunk jackasses get caught, sometimes.

In Hartline's case, he should be suspended for the whole game.Whether he was defending his girl, trying to incite an argument, or just plain old drunken horseplay. Either way to say that these student athletes SHOULDN'T drink vs whether they DO drink is comparing two entirely different things because the fact will never cease to exist, the fact that these youngsters whilst representing a college sometimes get caught up in who they really are which is a very young, immature, and mistake prone people.

Give the kid a break. Dont think he broke a law by drinking. I believe he is of age. The whole game was a lil too severe. This kid has done everything we have asked of him. Took his job away a couple times. And always looking over his back to see who we was gonna replace him wit next. Too severe, once again.

Suspend him for the first 5 games next year! Fair Punishment if your the NCAA. But Kentucky did do the right thing. It was good to here that he was defending his girlfriend, if he were not there who knows what could have happened to her...

      I totally agree,

Of course this is all hearsay until it is all brought out in court. If the scenario happened as that latest report says, I think Hartline should have had some discipline, but being benched for the complete game is a bit severe. He is of legal drinking age. I think the arresting officer was being a bit reprehensible for arresting him, IMHO.

I would also like to remind you yahoos that he had the presence of mind to take a taxi. He was doing all the right things. He is over 21. This was just a very very unfortunate series of events.

it does, somewhat...But if they weren't in that situation to begin with, then this would be a moot point and he could be preparing to QB his team in his last bowl game.

There are consequences to each action we take

Maybe U of K could have done what U of L does for their athletes that are arrested. Just make them practice a little more. LOL!

Either way if he got arrested then he needed to be suspended for the bowl game. If his girlfriend was being "verbally" assaulted then they needed to just leave. If Hartline ever put his hands on a female then he was wrong unless his girlfriends life was in serious danger, which doesn't seem to be the case. If Hartline's girl was fighting with another female then why does Hartline need to get involved with that? You don't get involved with two girls fighting. He just needed to get his girlfriend and leave. He's the QB and he needs to know that he has to avoid situations like that. It doesn't change my mind on his suspension.
