• If you haven't already heard, Charlie Strong has gotten a huge commitment from 5 Star quarterback Teddy Bridgewater from Florida. He is rated the #2 dual threat QB in the nation. Louisville also has a commitment from the top quarterback in Kentucky, Louisville Seneca's DaMarcus Smith. I got a chance to talk to DaMarcus on the phone today and asked him about the commitment of Bridgewater and how it effects his commitment.

    Q. DaMarcus, What do you think about the commitment of Teddy Bridgewater?

DaMarcus: I don't really mind it. I'm a competitor and I was kind of aware that Coach Strong was bringing someone in. It makes me eager and ready to compete.

Q Does this make you think about decommitting?

DaMarcus: Yes Sir I have. Not recently, but the commitment of Bridgwater has made me have thoughts about it. I have been thinking about seeing what other schools could offer. This really makes me think about it more.

Q:What schools have kept in touch lately?

DaMarcus: Alot of schools have been contacting me.Chip Kelly from Oregon, Boise State, and Illinois have been in touch the most.

Q: Have there been any Kentucky interest?

DaMarcus: Joker and I have a cool relationship, and even when I committed to Louisville he said we could always stay close during college and beyond. I also have a very close friend that graduated from Kentucky, Keenan Burton, and he has told me a lot of great things about joker and Kentucky. I will have to check out the quarterback situation at Kentucky and go from there.

Q: There was a rumor that you and Bridgewater were cousins, is that true?

DaMarcus: No, that isn't true. My dad knows his dad really well so our families are very good friends, but we are not cousins.

Q:If you had to rate your commitment with Louisville right now, how would you rate it?

DaMarcus: I will always try to stay humble and modest and say that with Teddy committing it really has opened my eyes a little bit. I would have to say I am leaning towards a soft commit with Louisville.

DaMarcus Smith ‘still committed’ to Louisville | Jody Demling - Recruiting

Seneca High School quarterback DaMacrus Smith woke up this morning with a bunch of text messages on his phone inquiring about his future plans.

The All-State quarterback then found out Miami Northwestern quarterback Teddy Bridgewater had also committed to the Cardinals and said "I was a little shaken."

But after talking with his mother and high school coach, Smith reports that he’s "still committed," to the University of Louisville and will sit down and talk with the U of L coaches after tomorrow’s bowl game to "see where I fit in their plans at."

"Deep down in my heart, Louisville is where I want to be," Smith said. "I can’t just make a decision based on emotion because someone else said they are coming there. I look forward to the competition.

"I am a competitor and deep down in my heart I know I am the best and I just have to keep working hard and try to come on there and prove it."

Smith, a four-star quarterback, committed to the Cardinals last winter just after Charlie Strong was named head coach at U of L. He had talked about taking some other visits and schools had still been calling until recently he left Seneca and enrolled at Jefferson County High School in an accelerated program to try and help him graduate this month so that he could enroll at U of L in January and participate in spring practice.

"That’s still the plan right now," said Smith, who threw for 3,150 yards and 30 touchdowns as a senior after sitting out his junior year with a knee injury.

Smith, a four-star prospect, played in the national Elite 11 Quarterback Camp last summer in California. Bridgewater, a five-star prospect, was also at the camp.

"Deep down in my heart, Louisville is where I want to be and I can’t worry about it," Smith said. "I can’t lie, I am forced to think about it all but that’s where I want to be."

This kid is an absolute fool if he stays committed to Louisville at this point. He will take a red shirt and sit 3-4 years waiting at UofL and by that time the coach that lured him there will be gone. I don't expect him to commit to UK but I would not be at all surprised if he decided to go to Oregon or Boise. Maybe he should talk to Mossakowski and get some advice about how that all turns out.
