• John Calipari's name is synonymous with the term "one and done," but he said he definitely isn't an expert.

“If you asked me if Eric Bledsoe would go after a year, I would have laughed and everybody around him would have laughed,” Calipari said. “Or Daniel Orton, who did not play his senior year in high school."

“Or Brandon Knight if you saw him play in Hawaii. I was thinking he might be here four years.”

He might not be an expert at prognosticating if they are one and done, but he sure is an expert in recruiting them.

Yes he is. But I would personally like to see a few "three and flee." Of course Cal can't make them stay more than 1 year, but he could at least try to convince them to stay 2 years anyway. And then again, mabye he does. I don't know.

The problem, in my opinion, is not a matter of Cal pushing them out but rather his ability to recruit the most talented kids in the country based on the success of his former players. Then, these incredible players get to UK and get to play with other pro-caliber players, against pro-caliber players, and in a pro-style atmosphere (facilities, fans, ect.) and when they prove themselves in tournament runs, causing their draft status to shoot up, it's hard to turn down the same type of atmosphere that comes with a paycheck. And I know we all talk about how they will be better prepared for the NBA with another season, two seasons, maybe three, but there's really no better preparation for playing NBA basketball than being on a roster and practicing with the guys you hope to start with the next season. Not even at the greatest tradition in college basketball.

Basically I agree with you. But these kids lack experience at the college level. And not all of them will make it to the NBA and even if they do there's no guarantee how many years they will play.

The list of players who don't make and who don't last is a lot longer than the list of those who do. At best it's a crap shoot.
