Could our new uniforms possibly look as bad as these pajamas worn by the Oregon Ducks? I Hope Not!!!

There’s been a lot of talk about UK’s new uniforms that will be unveiled this week. Rumors have been flying about the new design and the possibility of having the color black play a prominent role. Could this be the first bad decision from our coach? If the color black is in the uniforms, will the UK traditionalist create uproar? What would Rich Brooks say about this? By the end of the week, we should have the answers to all of these questions….

    Attachment 305
I personally would like to see the uniforms stay blue and white. I’m ok with black trim, but don’t agree with uniforms that are more than 20% black. We’re arguably the best team in the nation and gimmick uniforms don’t really mean much to me. I’m sure Rich Brooks could care less if the CATS wear black uniforms, and I’m sure Coach Calipari will not be asking for his approval.

During last years football season, UK promoted it’s game on Halloween against Mississippi St. as a Blackout. It was even suggested that team wear black uniforms. Rich Brooks responded in a “tweet” (for you non-twitters that’s a twitter message) and later to the media, that the team would not wear black and would only wear blue. He also made comment that UK’s colors were blue and white; not black. This made many fans believe (including myself) that Brooks was set in his ways and didn’t buy into any marketing gimmicks or anything else out of the ordinary.

You could say that new uniforms for this team are a right of passage. Much like the denim uniforms worn by the “Untouchables”, this team deserves similar treatment. The new uniforms could be any number of designs but when it comes to color, many fans believe there’s only two…BLUE and WHITE.

So what does this mean for Calipari? If the basketball team comes out in black uniforms will it be a slap in the face to Coach Brooks and the other UK Fans that hold our traditional blue and white uniforms as a sacred cow? One thing’s for certain, If there’s anyone who is in position to sacrifice sacred cows’ its John Calipari.

So what do you think? Do you support black uniforms?

You have got to be kidding me? I have issues now with the uniforms, was writing something about that, but now black? That "other" team in Louavull wears black. How could they degrade the Wildcat program by wearing black? Read my lips, THE University of Kentucky colors are KENTUCKY BLUE and WHITE. Every game, championship won, every sport at the University has worn and wears BLUE AND WHITE. How is that going to effect the cheer? BLUE-BLACK-BLUE-WHITE??? Now we will have to come up with one that is: What is Black and Blue all over with a hint of white? UK basketball! What designer came up with this idea. What yahoo is their marketing manager? What twerp is their PR person? AND, who is paying who how much to do this? You can't change tradition and you sure in the heck better not change the colors. GO CATS! 22-1

John Calipari will do whatever he can to draw interest from recruits.

Since I'm a year or two older than most of these recruits, we as a young generation like the black uniforms and like to go out in style. I think black uniforms would catch the eye of a few recruits and players on the team are probably fans of sporting black uniforms.

We as fans shouldn't give a crap about what our players wear, they should be the ones to make the decision since they are the ones wearing them.

I'm with you Linda!!! We're not Oregon....We're UK!! I'm OK with some trim, but all black is something Loserville would do.

Honestly, I don't really mind what the team wears, as long as we're winning games! If a uniform is going to hinder the performance of the players, then sure, I'd get riled up about it. But, last time I checked, the color of the uniforms had nothing to do with how many baskets our boys make.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the blue and white... but when it comes down to it, does that really even matter!?

I love the black added in. I believe it makes a dramatic statement. I was also told, during my years of sports, that the darker the color the bigger the optical illusion. The darker colors are suppose to make one look slower, which would make Wall be twice as fast. Plus for the fans, they will help us who are looking to lose a little weight look slimmer in our Big Blue support sportswear.

But really it is not up to us, it should be up to the players. Whatever makes them feel more fierce in their game, then wear it. Just don't jinx us.

Black is for death, we are a team alive with hope and energy. Black is a color that does not emit or reflect light. Light is the source of all life in the universe. Kentucky is the center of the universe of basketball. Do you want to be considered the Black Cats of basketball? The University of Kentucky adopted blue and white as its official colors in 1892. That is 118 years, do you really want to mess with tradition? Do you want Rupp to turn over in his grave? This galls me, a little black trim, ok, but please not black uniforms. No trim isn't even good. They are ugly! They look cheap! I bleed blue, don't want to bleed black, I'm not a witch or a vampire or who ever bleeds black. Give me a break...BLACK? They are nuts, pure unadulterated nuts! Those boys came to UK for the tradition and the program, don't try to change it even if it only a uniform. GO CATS! 22-1 BLUE-WHITE-BLUE-WHITE-BLUE-WHITE!

I think black is a color that can go with any team. To be honest I think the uniforms look awesome! It really doesn't matter what we wear. Were still Kentucky, were still the best team in the country!

I like the black for T-shirts just like the pink with blue with white polka dots. There is only on TRUE color and that's BIG BLUE. It's about tradition. It's sacreligious to think you should change it when ever and to whatever. The school colors are Blue and White. If someone wants to play a sport at UK then the uniform should be the school colors. Come on people!! This shouldn't even be up for discussion.

I like the black in a uniform, trim, or as a primary. It looks nice. Hell, i'd like to see a black uniform with the old school "KENTUCKY" across the chest, that would be nice.

I hope the uni's like the John Wall one up top that they are selling at dick's sporting goods stays in the stores and off the courts.

Black is fine by me, but the same design as texas's uni's looks too gaudy.

Plus, they said ours were supposed to be "new" and not used by anyone yet. So we'll see.

I was raised in Louisville, now live in Indiana, but still work in Louisville. My cubicle is decorated in BLUE and WHITE. We are the BIG BLUE. And it isn't just any blue, it is KENTUCKY BLUE. There is no other blue in the world like it. Black trim around the numbers or stripes down the pants, on the sides...OK, I can handle. But mostly black uniforms - NO Way! I didn't even like it when Hal Mumme wore navy blue sweaters, etc. Navy is not our shade of blue and neither is black. It's OK for a T-shirt, as long as the KY Blue stands out. Who in the world is getting paid to come up with this stuff. It can't be someone familiar with the program, the history. Maybe the younger kids like the black jerseys. When they are paying a fortune for seats, if they are lucky enough to get any, let them be worn then. For me, the excitement during a rare opportunity of actually getting to go to a game, F-Ball or B-Ball, is seeing them run out, wearing the KY Blue and white. And knowing that is OUR players. I bleed BLUE, too

It does not make any difference how we feel about it, they will do what they want to do. I hope the next time someone goes to Rupp's grave, Rupp has left a message in same shape or form about it if they change it. I wonder how much Nike is giving UK for the color change, someone has to be exchanging money some where. Like I said, the colors have been blue & white since 1892! Have we changed the colors on the American Flag? Heck no, don't start now with the BLUE & WHITE of UK! GO CATS! 23-1

First off, I thought the only team to wear the denim uniforms was the class AFTER the untouchables, but maybe I'm wrong, but I specifically remember Derek Anderson and Ron Mercer destroying people in those unis....secondly, I'm not necessarily turned off to black uniforms as long as it isn't a permanent thing. By permanent I mean every home game (for football) and every away game (for basketball). Every once in a while, break em out. Maybe if/when a coach feels the team deserves it or against special opponents, like Louisville.

Unregistered...I did do my research, on the official University of Kentucky site, it states... The University of Kentucky adopted blue and white as its official colors in 1892. When asked at one point what color blue, the University President held up his tie. Also, Walter's Wildcat World states 1892. If you have facts that this is not true, post them. I did my research, let's see yours.
