• According to the Louisville Courier-Journal's recruiting expert Jody Demling, Kentucky head coach John Calipari give Shelby Valley point guard Elisha Justice a call Thursday evening.

Justice summarizing he and coach Calipari's conversation:

"He said he had been watching my game films and he liked how I played," Justice told The Courier-Journal. "I don't know right now, he told me to talk it over with my family. But he said I was the type of player he was looking for."
Coach Calipari also told Justice that he was "expecting to lose a lot of guys," and noted there would likely be a scholarship for the point guard.

Justice said Calipari told him to call him back soon.

Justice on the Louisville walk-on commitment:

"I really like Louisville though," Justice said. "I feel like that is the better fit for me, right now."
You better bet that his family and friends at school will pressure him into going to UK if he is indeed offered a scholarship.

Also, for those of you that do not know, Elisha wants to coach college basketball in the future. That's why he committed to walk-on at Louisville, because of how well coach Pitino has developed some of his players into coaches (i.e. John Pelphrey, Travis Ford, etc.)

I live in Caney which is just a few miles from Shelby Valley. My son will attend there when he goes to high school. We watch the boys come home after winning the state tourney. I have to say Elisha that maybe you should consider going to UK. Coach Cal is a very good coach and has a good coaching style. I have to give him credit for what he's done with this young team and how far they went. You should seriously reconsider. I know I would.

And one more thing, I think Elisha will do just fine in college.

I think he will be like Hood no matter where he goes, he is good but overshaddowed by better players and Cal won't let him play. If Hood had played more he most likely would be better next year. Or worse Elisha might end up like Krebs...I think he should go wherever he wants, but If Bledsoe stays and Knight is coming why would we need 3 PGs.

you need 3 point guards in order to think about the future. I mean...every freshman can't expect to immediately play tons of minutes. As a coach, you hopefully have a couple of younger players who spend a year learning under some who may be more skilled or experienced and hope that they grow from that for the next season when it's their turn for the spotlight.

that said...has this kid been looked at by any other major schools in terms of scholarships? If not, that may clue us in to how badly our roster will be depleted next season (if enough leave that we have a scholarship available that's not already eaten up by kids who wouldn't merely be "walking on" somewhere)
