You might already know this by now, but DeMarcus Cousins went to the Sacramento Kings with the fifth pick in the draft. This is great news for cousins, not only because he gets to make a ton of money (as shown to us by iShawnUK, great job on that btw!!), but because he will be able to play with Tyreke Evans. Evans and Cousins are good friends through coach cal (he coached Evans during his last season at Memphis). Evans was the NBA Rookie of the Year this year, A.K.A the award cousins is going for next season. The Kins fans are ESTATIC about having cousins, i would compare their enthusiasm to UK fan's, that's how crazy they are. Here is the video of the announcement via twitter: http://www.twitvid.com/XPX4J Thank you to coach Cal's facebook for the tip!
According to ESPN.com, UK has 3 possible lottery picks, and they haven't even played a game in a Kentucky uniform. Brandon Knight, Enes Kanter, and Terrence Jones are already projected to be lottery picks in the 2011 NBA draft. But there is a catch to this, there could be a lockout stoppping underclassmen from entering the draft next year. That would be HUGE for us, because we could have an entire team of NBA ready players, playing in college (in 2011-2012). We would have the 3 projected for next years draft (Knight, Jones, and Kanter), possibly 3, maybe 4 or 5 who could leave after a(nother) year of college (Lamb, Poole, Vargas, Miller, Dodson *Miller and Dodson possible*; **Liggins is also possible, but highly unlikely unless he really steps up**), and 2 projected for the 2012 draft (Gilchrist and Teague), in addition to any other recruits we might possibly get in 2011 (2012 draft) that could be one and dones (like Quincy Miller, Johnny O'bryant, and Quin Cook, among others). That would be without a doubt THE BEST TEAM IN COLLEGE BASKETBALL HISTORY. What do you guys think?? Be sure to tell us in the comments!! Here are ecerpts on the 3 recruits that might go first round... Jones: Kentucky: Jones is a slasher that should put up points for the Wildcats. But it might be hard to differentiate himself enough to leave after just a season. But role players on elite teams can still get selected in the first round. Just ask Daniel Orton. Kanter: Kentucky: If he were in this draft, he probably would've been a late lottery pick. Kanter's eligibility still has to be solved, but assuming he gets on the court for the Wildcats, he'll likely be another one-and-done. He has a real chance to be the Wildcats' leading scorer and rebounder and will likely be too productive to stick around UK for long. Knight: Kentucky: Knight comes in as part of another heralded UK recruiting class. He won't be John Wall, but he'll be the next big-time point for John Calipari, who has churned out Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans and Wall over the past three drafts. Knight should follow as another pro.
Tony Wroten has announced via twitter that he might commit when he returns to Seattle. Everybody knows that UK is the front runner for Wroten, so could he possibly be our third 2011 commitment?
Bigblecats.com is reporting that the Boston Celtics may take Eric Bledsoe as a backup for Rondo with the 19th over all pick in tonights draft. the Washington Wizards and the Boston Celtics are the only 2 teams that are really looking for a point guard in the draft, and the top 2 point guards just happen to belong to Kentucky. Bledsoe would be the 2nd point guard that the Celtics have got from Kentucky in the past 5 years, and would be a great long term investment, like Rondo was. I personally would love to see Bledsoe go to the Celtics to make a UK back court there. And since Bledsoe and Rondo are very similar players, the team wouldnt really have to change their expectations and could continue to pile on like they had been the rest of the game. Great news everybody! we wont have to worry about having any of our 2011 players decommit from us. Marquis Teague absolutely cant wait to be in Lexington. his cousin was a redshirt for the Kentucky football team, and "encouraged him to come to UK from day one". Marquis has said he will sign in November, as soon as the 2011 recruits can sign papers. By doing this he is bucking the traditional plan of waiting untill the spring to sign. While many highly-rated players have put off signing scholarships until the spring of their senior seasons, Teague has a different plan. “I will sign in November. That is my plan and what I want to do. There’s no reason for me to wait. I know where I am going,” he said. here is the full story here's a video of "the greatest pointguard in 2011" Click to watch on Youtube
