#stayclassyVandy

I'm not gonna lie, every year this game makes me nervous and this year is no exception. Before the season even began, this game was circled on my schedule as one I thought the Cats may lose. So if Kentucky comes out of Memorial gym tonight with an L, it won't surprise me and I won't be disappointed. All teams struggle playing in that rickety old, weird gym and with another young team, you don't know what the outcome might be.

I can tell you that I'm not quite as nervous about tonight's game as I have been the last two years. The way Kentucky has been playing with such poise and domination has put my little heart at ease. I'm also well aware that if they do lose a game, it could be the last game they lose this season, and I'm okay with that.

This Kentucky team is something Vandy has not faced this year: An incredibly lengthy and athletic team, that has the ability to pressure them at the three point line along with eliminate shots around the basket.

I say the Cats pull out a close one 72-69. They might be down at half by one or two, but will come out strong in the second, owning the lead and never looking back. Vandy may have a shot to win it at the end but Kentucky sinks their free throws to pull out a close one on the road.
In their second road game this week, the Cats take on the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge. LSU is a hungry team, and will be a challege to play in their own arena. I look for Kentucky to come out and get the win but I would be lying if I said this game didn't scare me a bit. Every road game in conference is tough and this will be no exception.

The Cats will need to eat their frosted mini wheats and come in fully focused and strong.

Something to complain about.

Motivational quotes and little stupid phrases that help us keep perspective are okay, I suppose. That is, if you are a mouth-breathing chucklehead...

Motivational quotes and little stupid phrases that help us keep perspective are okay, I suppose. That is, if you are a mouth-breathing chucklehead who doesn't have the gumption to pick the underwear out of your butt without some stupid daily calendar with pictures of cats saying things like "Go back a little to leap further". God knows there are enough suckers out there that the whole thing has become a cottage industry.

Whatever. I can deal with most of it. But I heard one the other day that I'd never heard before, or if I had, I managed to block it out with things like kids, and work, and sports, and the lyrics to "Weird Al" Yankovic's song "Yoda" (which is a parody of "Lola", by The Kinks. Hard to say which is better, really). The phrase in question is as follows:

"I complained because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet."

GAAAAAHGHGGLACCAKCVLFKDACKAACKACK. Sorry, had to throw up in my mouth a bit. This may be the emptiest, most useless phrase since a "Mission Accomplished" banner flew on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln a few years ago.

Where to start with the debunking of this verbal chlamydia? For starters, if I want to complain, I'm going to. This country was founded on complaints, or else those whiny-a** Puritans wouldn't have left England in the first place. "Ooh, I'm so tired of religious ritual, Chauncey! Why, we should found a country with freedom of religion, and instead of those darned Catholics molesting little boys, we can instead have Protestants and Baptists stealing money and buying hookers! Fancy the notion!"

Even if I don't want to complain (which I do, trust me. I'm a big, fat, hairy man-woman who complains about every little thing), this is still a trite, stupid sentence. If I don't have any shoes, you can bet your sweet bippy I'm letting it be known how unhappy Daddy is about his feet being cold.

You know who doesn't have cold feet? The guy without any feet. Tell me how I'm better off than him, when I have severe frostbite on my toes, but his nubs are most likely safe inside of his pants. Advantage: random footless stranger.

Also, a guy without feet is probably getting disability. He gets a check (and rightfully so) that allows him to have an income, income that he is losing otherwise due to his footlessness. Meanwhile, Shoeless Joe over here, who happens to have all his feet but nothing to put them in, gets to stand barefoot running a meat-press at the Spam factory all day, just knowing that, at any time, a rogue piece of processed, not-quite-yet-a-meatless-nasty-food-product premature Spam lump could fly off the sander belt and land on his exposed metatarsals. I wouldn't want Spam on my feet even I was wearing shoes, much less barefoot.

Now, imagine you and the footless guy are both competing for a girl. She's a sweet young thing, and you both fancy her quite the catch. So what happens? You ask her to go dancing. That'll show Hop-along a thing or two! She accepts, you hit the local line-dance club, and you suddenly remember that you dance like old people fornicate: it's ugly to see, and there's a good chance someone is getting hurt. You tangle your feet trying to turn it out during the "Cha-cha Slide" and fall into a group of middle-aged women on a girl's night. Glasses break, wine gets spilled, blouses get stained, and menopausal women freak the eff right out. Even worse, your date is so embarrassed she never calls again.

So what does the footless guy do? He rows her out into the middle of the lake on a beautiful, starry night. 'Neath the romantic light of the full moon on a clear night, they share a passionate kiss, a kiss that leads to their courtship and eventual marriage, which in turn leads to children, children who grow up to be strong, handsome, athletic specimens who make straight A's and who feel sorry for your kid, a stupid, stupid child born out of wedlock to you and a truck-stop waitress with a glass eye that you hooked up with one night in a moment of desperation after drinking yourself blind over your lack of a loafer-filled existence. Advantage? I think we know.

So, the next time you want to complain about not having any shoes, go right ahead. It's a rough life. And if you should happen across a man who has no feet?

Beat him down. He deserves it.

Here is the postgame with Drew Kelly(left) and Angelo Warner..

I asked Kelly about a comparison to Michael Kidd-Gilchrist...Kelly plays with a neverending motor and plays hard all the time..very fun to watch.

The above picture paints a thousand words about what Roy Williams did after a 33 point loss to an 11-5 Florida State team. Lets start from the beginning.

Under 2 minutes to go in the game, North Carolina had all of its reserves in the game and the starters were on the bench. Picture proof of Tyler Zeller consoling his nose under a towel here:

After some sloppy play and a few late deadballs, Roy looked at the crowd and noticed they were getting "rowdy". With about 25 seconds remaining, Roy talks to a referee and tells him the plan to pull the guys off the bench and take them to the lockerroom if there is another deadball. True to form with 14 seconds left, there was another out of bounds situation. Roy then half hesitantly walked towards Leonard Hamilton who was standing straight as an arrow just waiting for the game to be over. Roy basically asked for approval to leave early to which Hamilton obliged.

Then it got interesting. Roy then looks at his bench, makes a wave gesture as to say "come on" and walks straight to the locker room. Hamilton then stopped him to tell him his players didn't know to follow. Roy almost walked off to the locker room by himself alah Daniel Orton.

At that same moment, a UNC player on the court approaches Roy to ask what is going on, Roy completely ignores him and walks back to the Tar Heel bench to wave yet once again for his "star" players to "come on". Then Roy shook hands with the FSU coaches and bench and proceeded to the locker room. This time his team followed behind.

The player who Roy ignored then ran to join his team as they were leaving thinking he was supposed to leave as well. The assistants then informed him he was staying with the other 4 players on the court. As he was turned away he asked "what do we do?". The assistant probably said get off the court as soon as the game's over, then he said ok.

This is a fairly wuss thing to do even for Roy. I have never, EVER seen a coach tell his team to go to the locker room prior to the game being over. This tells me a couple of things about Roy.

1. He didn't care about safety as much as he wanted to get out of there. He wanted to leave so badly he didn't even care if his team was behind him. Its a bad loss, soak it in. Have your players try to learn how this feels, so they never want to feel it again.

2. let's say he DID care about the safety of his players. Why leave with the stars and leave the walk-ons with some assistants? Its the head coach's job to ensure the safety of ALL the players. I was in charge of a youth group on a ski trip once. One kid didn't make it back with the rest of his friends and no one knew where he was. i freaked out, dropped everything and frantically searched for him. Nothing at that moment was more important than the safety of that kid. I couldn't imagine telling a parent their kid was hurt on my watch, especially if i wasn't even in the vicinity.

3. This wasn't Leonard Hamilton's decision or suggestion. Roy proposed and Leonard accepted. Straight from Roy Williams' mouth: "I went and talked to Leonard and I had already talked to one of the referees that was over there and it was almost Leonard’s suggestion. He’s a quality person." Full quotes here

The captain goes down with the ship unless you're on Ol' Roy Cruise Lines then its every man for himself.

Here's the link to the entire game. Fast forward to the the 2:01:00 mark for all the fun.
The benefit of winning the UK/UL basketball game each year is plain and simple: fan bragging rights. In my eyes, winning the basketball game is more essential than winning the football game for a could reasons:

A. Kentucky IS a basketball state. Yes, both schools play football but no matter what fans try to say, basketball is number one, always.

2. Whoever wins the basketball game gets longer bragging rights. The winner of the football game only gets a few months to say thier the best, once the game on the hardwood is finished, no one cares or remembers who won the football game and the victor can brag all the way until September 1st.

(A, 2....get it? lol)

I have been torn on this game and all of the tweets and radio callers this week have been getting under my skin...and I'm not just talking about Louisville fans. It goes both ways. In my honest opinion, I think today's game will be close. Louisville is very physical and will be looking to draw contact early. Will the refs whistles be tight? Will they let them play? I like Kentucky to win, even in a close game but I will not be shocked if Louisville can pull the upset. (God help me if this happens)

My Louisville vs. Kentucky game prediction:

Louisville 68 Kentucky 74

Let's go, it's time...GO CATS!!

(Is this who the Cats play tonight?)

Tonight our Cats play their scrimmage before the big showdown this Saturday at noon. The Cats take on a "tough" Lamar team at 8:30pm on ESPNU. Give me your score prediction, and who you think will be the leading scorer for the Wildcats.

Also, for the hell of it, tell me if you think Louisville or Georgetown will win tonight. I personally am semi pulling for the Cards, I'd rather them win tonight and take thier first loss against us at Rupp. Plus, when teams lose they often come back more focused in their next game, so I would LOVE an undefeated Cardinal team to stroll into Rupp Arena as if they rull the world. Bring. It.

My prediction for tonight:

Kentucky 84 Lamar 61
Leading Scorer: Lamb

Louisville 64 Georgetown 59

Let's get 'em Cats!

You know the song I'm talking about. You've heard it somewhere, I'm sure. It's the Randy Travis country/gospel crossover song that came out around 8 years ago. It's about a farmer, a teacher, a hooker, and a preacher riding on a midnight bus that was bound for Mexico.

It's one of those songs that mentions God just enough to make people who like the song think they are good Christians, kind of like those damned Facebook posts that say "copy & paste this if you love Jesus." Well guess what, a**holes? I love Jesus. I don't show it at all, but I do. And I'll be darned if I forward that stupid post just to keep from feeling guilty. I'll feel guilty out of spite, thank you very much. Uhh, where was I?

Oh yeah, that song. Here are the lyrics:

A farmer and a teacher, a hooker and a preacher,
Ridin' on a midnight bus bound for Mexico.
One's headed for vacation, one for higher education,
And two of them were searchin' for lost souls.
That driver never ever saw the stop sign.
And eighteen wheelers can't stop on a dime.

CHORUS:
There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway,
Why there's not four of them, Heaven only knows.
I guess it's not what you take when you leave this world behind you,
It's what you leave behind you when you go.

That farmer left a harvest, a home and eighty acres,
The faith and love for growing things in his young son's heart.
And that teacher left her wisdom in the minds of lots of children:
Did her best to give 'em all a better start.
And that preacher whispered: "Can't you see the Promised Land?"
As he laid his blood-stained Bible in that hooker's hand.

CHORUS

That's the story that our preacher told last Sunday.
As he held that blood-stained bible up,
For all of us to see.
He said: "Bless the farmer, and the teacher, and the preacher"
"Who gave this Bible to my mama,
"Who read it to me."

CHORUS

Sweet story, isn't it? The strumpet survives the wreck and goes on to bear a child who would eventually become a man of the cloth. Yay, ironic justice!

I heard it on the radio today, and I got reminded of how annoying the story is. Not the overall story, it's actually quite touching. I mean the details. Mainly, what kind of egg-sucking farmer goes on vacation with a harvest due? Farmers don't tend to vacate anyway, due to the neverending nature of, you know, FARMING. And if a farmer was going on vacation, it wouldn't be to Mexico. It would be to a pumpkin farm or Niagara Falls or something stupid like that. And for that matter, why wasn't the farmer's son with him? Don't farmers pride themselves on being family men? I think he had a thing going on with the hooker. I bet she was a Mexican hooker, too. They are probably cheaper. That would explain why they were going to Mexico.

But then, something else occurred to me: what the hell happened to the BUS DRIVER?

Remember, the chorus says there are three wooden crosses, then wonders why there aren't four. This is talking about the farmer, the teacher, the hooker, and the preacher. So why does the bus driver not warrant a roadside mention? Or for that matter, the driver of the semi-truck? Why can't there be five wooden crosses? Or six?

I guess the songwriters couldn't be bothered with a verse about how the bus driver left a case of genital warts with the Burger King cashier at the last pickup stop. Or how the truck driver probably had a load consisting of four hundred cases of Coors beer. Although, if the bus was bound for Mexico, they weren't likely east of Texas, so the Coors wouldn't have been a big deal.

Maybe there were no drivers. Maybe it was like that movie Maximum Overdrive, where a bunch of unmanned semi-trucks drove in a circle around a gas station, while Emilio Estevez pumped gas until he neared the point of exhaustion.

Personally, I think the Second Coming occurred during the story, and the bus driver and truck driver were the only two worthy of going on to Heaven. The farmer, teacher, hooker, and preacher were left to suffer an eternity without conviction, and no further chance at salvation.

Because they didn't copy the Facebook status about Jesus.

Hey all! Just wanted to pop in and apologize for being MIA for the last couple weeks! Things have been hectic as I'm in the process of transitioning to a new company, and working a second job for the holidays. I promise I'll get back on track within the next week or so and I'll be writing up a storm. I have a LOT of thoughts going on and several rants to entertain you! Go Cats, love you all!

Pikeville beat Mountain State last year in the NAIA Championship game and this was a huge rematch of the two best team in America.

I knew the game was going to be a good one, I just never thought a donnie brook would break out right in the middle of the game.

I also never thought my good friend and UPike head coach Kelly Wells would get thrown out of the game.

Here are the videos Anthony Wireman filmed during the craziness.

You should have seen Wireman, he jumped on top of a table to try and get all the craziness.
Pikeville ended up holding on at the end to beat Mountain State 98-93, but as you can tell that wasn't the story of this game at all.

The argument that Alabama should have a shot to play LSU in the BCS game is crazy..any team that doesn't have a field goal kicker and can't realize that they have 12 men in the huddle in overtime doesn't deserve anything. Especially with all of that happening at home.

The past week has been unreal for me as 3 big stories have found me and I have basically broke the stories to the masses.

First off is Alex Poythress and his newly found love for the Memphis Tigers. Of course, this was huge news since everyone, including myself, thought it was a two horse race between the Cats and Vanderbilt. I was lucky enough to speak to a very good source who is very well in touch with the recruiting scene and told me Poythress was feeling Memphis after his visit.

I guess it took Jarnell Stokes jumping back on the radar and Scout.com's Evan Daniels finally saying that Memphis does have a shot of landing the 5 star forward from Clarksville, Tn for everyone to finally realize I just don't sit around and make stuff up.

Stacey Poole was the next big story as another source called me and told me Poole was ready to leave Lexington. I of course didn't wan't to put the information out in a way that would hurt the University or Poole so I was very vague with the tweet. As everyone knows now, Tipton and Tucker were all over it by nightfall, as it wasn't too hard to figure out who the transfer talk was about. It still seems like it is up in the air what will become of Poole, but I don't see him coming back to the basketball team.

Last night finished off my crazy week as I announced, from another source, that Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt was fired after the loss to Kentucky. Now, if you keep up with SEC football, it was not a surprise that he was on his way out at the end of the season, but the big news was it was last night and that the administration is supposed to be meeting today to decide if he finishes the season or not.

Now, I am saying all of this because in each instance various people on twitter have either doubted my reports or saying I am making it up just to be noticed.

Sorry, I care about my website and my name a whole lot than to just throw out things that affect other peoples lives if they aren't true.

So, if you see me report something on twitter or read something that I write on Nation of Blue, then to the best of my knowledge it is true.

If I am wrong, I will make sure and retract..

But that is looking far and between this week...

I have been lucky enough to meet a lot of great people along the way of writing and owning Nation of Blue and now it looks like I will be making a regular appearance on the Freak Show with John Renshaw on 1450am in Louisville.

Every Kentucky basketball gameday at 4:15 I will preview the game for that night on the show.

This is supposed to be leading to me having my own show in the afternoons on 1450am in a couple of weeks.

Pretty exciting time for Nation of Blue and yours truly.
Try and check it out on 1450 The Sports Buzz.

I love this time of year! Not just the leaves changing, football season in full swing or the scent of basketball in the air, but I love Halloween! I love the idea of dressing up and pretending to be something different for a night, the thought that for one night you can take on a completely new persona is electrifying. I love carving pumpkins and light pumpkin spice candles. I like to hand out candy to all of the little dressed up monters that come to my door. I love a good, decorated Halloween party, scary movies, and the thought that once we get past Halloween, the best holiday season is ahead of us.

This post may be a little cheesy but I was just feeling the season tonight as I carved my pumpkin (seen above). Hope you all are enjoying this fall season, and regardless if you like the same things as me, I hope that whatever it is that makes you happy, you take full advantage of it.

I'll be at the blackout game Saturday, can't wait to put on my black, see the sharp unis in person and cheer on the Cats, win or lose. Hope to see you all out there, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I know that every member of the Big Blue Nation expects, or at least hopes the Cats to be hanging another banner at 2012 Madness. Except for it only...

I know that every member of the Big Blue Nation expects, or at least hopes the Cats to be hanging another banner at 2012 Madness. Except for it only to be a National Championship banner. This team is Physically imposing in terms of size, athleticism, and speed. But I also believe that there is ALOT of work to do with the ball in their hands. Yes, I know that the top eight players were all top 25 recruits coming out of High School. With that being said, these guys still have a long ways to go before they are cutting down any nets. Davis is as good as any 4-man in the country, but could definitely gain about 30 pounds so he doesn't get pushed around down low. Teague will be relied on alot, and needs to improve his finishing around the rim. I watched him play a few times in high school and noticed that he isn't a great finisher in traffic. Gilchrist is the athletic beast that everyone hyped him up to be. With a little work on his shooting and ball handling, he could be a top 5 pick in next year's draft.

With the schedule that the Cats have, it is easy to see possibly three losses before Christmas. I do believe that this is going to be a better team than last year's Cats, but it may take a while to get there. The only reason I think that they have a long way to go, is because of the tough schedule. North Carolina is without a doubt, the best team in the nation. Louisville will not be a pushover, along with Indiana. The Hoosiers will be much better than they have been in the past two years. But you can't forget about Kansas and St. Johns.

The SEC will be tougher this year than the previous year. Florida is good again, after a great recruiting class, along with Alabama. Kentucky should be the unanimous favorite to win the SEC, but it isn't going to be a cakewalk. All of these tough games is going to be a great way to prepare for March Madness. Even if they take five or six losses, it can only help the young Cats. They are truly playing the best schedule this season.

Finally I wanna talk about the leadership of Darius Miller. I believe that Darius is the key to how far this team will go. He has the potential to be the SEC player of the year and easily score 20+ppg. Also he should be hitting the glass hard, and playing stellar defense. He has took alot of criticism over the past three years and it seems to me that he is on a mission to prove those critics wrong.

I hope nobody takes this article the wrong way. I am in no way, trying to put down on UK.

GO BIG BLUE!! :ukbball: :uk: :cat: :claw:

It's no secret I'm sort of cranky. Don't believe me, just look at my articles on here. Then, after you read the articles, look at some of the comments calling me a bad fan, bandwagon jumper, kitten-setter-on-firer, whatever. Actually, most of those are on the Facebook pages. But still, it's out there. But today, a reader left a great comment on my most recent article that hits right near where I'm coming from, and I felt compelled to share it here. This comes from reader JPhelps, and I really love his take on the situation, if for no other reason than his agreeing with me. Take a look.

JPhelps:

It's all about a very simple dichotomy. I'll try to break it down as best as I can. You have football fans and you have basketball fans (now, this isn't trying to say that you can't be both, I am both, as are most of you, but bear with me.) I've polled a fair share of both, people who like football better than basketball and vise versa. It's about what you would expect 90-95% in this state are basketball first, but there are some of the opposite that exist. When I ask them this one simple question, this is where I think football fans differ big time from most UK basketball and "both sport" fans in general...

WOULD YOU GIVE UP 15-20 YEARS OF BASKETBALL TO BECOME A CONTENDER IN THE SEC IN FOOTBALL?

All football fans say that they would sacrifice the next 10-20 years in basketball to get competitive enough to one day compete in football. I know... Asinine right? In horse racing, they call this throwing good money at bad money. Why on earth would I put a crisp 100 dollar bill on a horse that's 100/1 when its all but certain it may never win a title... Get my reference?

Football has 3 major problems. First, the BCS. If you lose one game and you are done with your national title aspirations. One sloppy game to rival Louisville first game and its over. Or hell, you can run the freaking gauntlet in the SEC (see Auburn with Cadillac and Ronnie Brown) and not make the championship. Second, the SEC is too freaking good to take a chance like this. With the land mines that wait to derail your championship season every game, its an absolute miracle to come out undefeated (WE ALMOST beat Auburn last year). Thirdly, and thank God for this, UK fans are basketball crazed and the basketball fans and both sport fans would roll over in their grave before they'd let the basketball team slide out of contention.

Contrast that with basketball, where we went 1-7 on the road in conference last year, but come tournament time, when the chips were down, we lost the national title game. UConn/Butler doesn't count.

And for anyone of you who thank, "But we're UK! We could let the program slide and come right back?" You honestly believe that? With as much parity as is in the system today? Really? That's like saying one day a team like Gardner Webb could come into Rupp Arena and actually beat us! Wait a second...

You got to keep fanning the flames, and a good way to look at it. What is a historically great program that let things slide and has been 15-20 years recovering. The dreaded armpit to the North.... Indiana.

I don't know about you, but for this basketball 75% Football 25% fan, I think you are crazy to throw basketball under a bus.

Hard to argue ain't it?
