Earlier today Coach Calipari visited the Kentucky department of transportation. While he was in Frankfort, he also made a stop by the Governor's office. He wasn't there, but they did take this picture. Is it just me, or does this just look natural? One could argue that the head basketball coach at UK has as much or more power than the state's Governor. What do you think?
Today ukathletics.com announced that The John Calipari radio show is going to be picked up nationwide by Sirius XM. WOW! We went from NIT to now our coach has his own syndicated radio show that's broadcast all over the country! What next!! As a Sirius XM subscriber, this announcement is music to my ears. There's nothing worse than driving home from work and fighting with the radio trying to find Coach Cal's radio show. Slowly losing one station, but not close enough to pick up the next has been my life for the past five years. Here's how it was reported by ukathletics.com.... LEXINGTON, Ky. – UK fans nationwide can now tune into the John Calipari radio show live thanks to Sirius/XM satellite radio. The Calipari show, which airs on Mondays and select Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. ET throughout the season, will be broadcast live on Sirius XM SportsNation - Sirius Ch. 122/XM Ch. 143. The show schedule for the remainder of the season is available, along with links to the online broadcast and archives. The Wildcats return to Rupp Arena for the first time in two weeks on Saturday, hosting Arkansas. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. ET tip and can be seen live on the SEC Network. Here's a taste of what the nation will soon have access to. This is a post-game show, but very similar to what you would hear on Monday evenings. Click to watch on Youtube
This just in..... Its been reported that the auction for a dinner for six with John Calipari and Ashley Judd sold on EBay for $98,100!!! The proceeds go to the "Hoops for Haiti" efforts that will benefit the victims of the earthquake in Haiti earlier this month. Are you kidding me!!!! Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that Coach Cal was able to raise this kind of money, but I want you to think about the true value of what was won. Do you really think dinner with Coach Cal and Ashley Judd is worth $100K!! It's dinner!!! Does anyone know what's on the menu? If I was paying $98K, I think I would need a little bit more than just dinner. I would ask that Ashley Judd feed me every bite and wipe my mouth when needed and Coach Cal must ask me about my offensive philosophy and then use it in the next game. Is that too much to ask? What would you ask for? Click to watch on Youtube
Following Kentucky's 76-68 conference opening victory against Georgia, Kentucky coach John Calipari gave some feedback on who he thought stood out. In his opinion DeAndre Liggins was the difference maker and was the factor that in the end allowed that W show up in the win column. Here is the excerpt from UK Athletics of Calipari discussing Liggins; “Who fought? You tell me who went in and fought? DeAndre Liggins. It is not brain surgery. We all saw how he can play. Now the question is, do I start him? Should he be a starter? The tentativeness, the softness, the `I got screened I’m sorry’, it is too late now. We are in the middle of the season and you have to ball. You have to go out there and fight and compete and if you are not, I am going to play somebody else. I have not changed since I got in the seat. We got some guys fighting it a little bit, `I would try ig you give me the ball more.’ It isn’t about that. It is about battling. DeAndre was probably the difference in the game. If I had to play pother people we probably wouldn’t have enough to win. One guy was breaking down and they were coming up with balls. He tied up a ball for a jump ball and made that layup when we were dying. He did some really good things, I was proud of him too, really proud of him.” Now by all means DeAndre has showed that he can be on the team, following his suspension he has stepped in and made a difference. His biggest impact I feel has been on the defensive end with his intense pressure on the ball handler of the opposing team. With that said maybe Liggins only needs to be the sixth man for this season, he was suspended for most of the non-conference schedule after all. It would seem that the starter that Coach Calipari would be directing this comment toward would be Darius Miller who hasn't done a lot in the past few games but I don't believe he has done enough to lose his spot. When Bledsoe or Wall go to the bench it is Darius you will see bringing the ball up the court and although he does hesitate from time to time to take the shot, he does take care of the ball. This is a position I don't think Liggins is ready for, he was last year's Bledsoe by getting a full head of steam and either losing the ball or being called for a charge on the defender. Now all of this could be nothing more than Coach John Calipari trying to give Darius Miller or possibly Eric Bledsoe some initiative to be more than a difference maker but I felt it was a big topic to discuss amongst his comments from his postgame interview.
