Aaron's UK Football Blog has the reported the following: Turner takes Over It is being reported that David Turner has accepted the position of Defensive Line Coach at UK. Turner comes to the CATS from Mississippi State where he has served since 2007. Previously, he had headed up the Defensive Ends at Alabama (2006) and served as Vandy's Recruiting Coordinator from 2002-05. The 47 yr old graduated from Davidson in 1985 with a degree in Sociology. David replaces Rick Petri (former UK D-line coach) who was let go when Joker Phillips took over as Head Coach when Rich Brooks retired. Petri had come under scrutiny for his perceived lack of recruiting High School talent to the team. Turner began his coaching career at Davidson in 1986 as a running backs/tight end coach. In my opinion, Florida is 2nd on my hate list in College Basketball. I have a 3 way tie for first. Duke, Louisville, and Tennessee are on the Mt. Rushmore of Hate for me. The 2 straight years that Florida won the National Championship was the longest 2 years that I can remember(His 2 years doesn't count.) We kept getting beat by that BIG GIRL Noah and he just kept rubbing it in our face. I hate Joakim Noah. Passion!! He probably tops my list of most hated players, right up there with Laettner and Bobby Hurley. Another reason I can't stand Florida is football. We might not ever beat them, but the day we do I might run naked all the way to Gainesville just to flip them the bird. Tebow, Spurrier, Meyer and even Ron Zook! Hate them all. The Cats need a big one tomorrow night, because it would look as bad as Kentucky beating Georgia in football if we don't take care of business tomorrow night. Go Big Blue!!
The University of Kentucky announced that Joker Phillips is officially the head coach of the football program. After being named the "coach in waiting" over the last year, today marked an accomplishment that was over 20 years in the making. The Press Conference was held at 3:08PM. Why 3:08? Joker Phillips actually wore #8 when playing at UK as a wide receiver. In honor of that, the press conference was scheduled for "8" minutes after the hour. Joker started by saying it was a childhood dream to play for the Wildcats, in a time when that was not a popular choice (it's better, but it's still not that popular). He thanked everyone that helped him reach this point in his career and sent out a special thanks to Rich Brooks and his wife. Joker was visibly shaken when talking bout coach Brooks. He became teary eyed and continued to wipe them away for a few minutes aferwards. This was one of the best parts of the press conference and almost made me a huge Joker fan (I'm a Joker fan, just not a huge one After thanking everyone, Joker got down to business. He promptly announced a "Call to service - directly and inderectly" and named it Operation Win. Operation Win - "To continue to strive for excellence in every possible area related to the Kentucky football program" Over the past couple of weeks many fans have questioned the decision to name Joker the head coach without looking to see who else is available. We've even hammerd out our opinions in two recent post.. "Will Joker's Bubble Burst" and Kentucky Football's Top Five Head Coaching Candidates Not Named Joker Here are some comments Joker made about next year's team... Players Comming back- We have a good group of players comming back, D. Locke is comming back. John Conner will be the hardest to replace. QB - "We are as talented as we've ever been at this position." "We're very deep and it should be competitive in the spring." Defense- "We loose Corey Peters and he'll be hard to replace, but we feel we have enough to make up for it." One concers was the loss of Trevard Lindley. He didn't actually play a lot this year so we gained some experience at that spot. Overall he did a great job and he made me excited about next years team. I'm hoping he can shake things up and give the fans something exciting to watch on the field. Here's the press conference in case you missed it.... Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
The Georgia Bulldogs come into Rupp Arena for the 1st SEC game for Coach Cal and the Young Wildcats. If you have ever been in Rupp Arena for a SEC game you know there is a totally different vibe than an out of conference game. This is when the real season begins. Georgia comes into Rupp Arena with an 8-5 record and just beating their archrival Georgia Tech. Georgia, known for their football, likes to remind everyone about their football program, even when winning in basketball. Since Kentucky has already beat Georgia in football, I am wondering why we have to play Georgia in basketball. If we beat the Bulldogs in football, then the basketball team should get an automatic 2 wins. They are automatic anyway, so I guess it will be a good time for Jon Hood to get some playing experience. Maybe Mark Krebs will finally shoot the 3 at the end of the game. He isn't going to get too many more chances!!
