  1. Rich Brooks Retires As Head Coach of Kentucky Football

    by , January 4th, 2010 at 12:49 PM

Rich Brooks announced today that he is officially retiring as head coach of UK's football program. Even with mixed emotions from fans, this was definitely a sad moment in Kentucky Football. In a decision that was not related to contracts or termoil, Brooks had come to feel peace about his decision to leave and today he made it official.

    Here's some highlights / quotes...
Brooks is disapointed he wasn't able to complete everything he wanted to.

Talked about the need for a recruiting room and weight room. This is something the university recently decided against (and Brooks was not happy about).

How he want's to be remembered - "Hopes the team/fans understand that they have a chance to come into Commonwealth Stadium and win football games vs. just coming to enjoy the tailgating."

"I Hope everyone supports the new head coach with open arms"....I guess he's talking about Joker? I still don't agree with just appointing a coach without looking to see what's out there. For my top five coaches we should go for..CLICK HERE

Where the program is at right now? "We're on the brink of being a top 20 team. We're on the brink of being really good, but we're also close to going the other way as well. That's why he's asking everyone to support this program"....or, how about hiring a coach to do that vs. blaming the fans if everything goes sour?

Brooks High Points (in his opinion) - LSU #1 win, First Georgia win, Miss St. after the LSU loss, Fans don't want to hear it, but the Vanderbilt series. We now have the lead in that series.

  4. Rich Brooks Music City Farewell

    by , December 30th, 2009 at 02:21 AM

In Kentucky Football, the Wildcats lose a windy Music City Bowl and Rich Brooks announces that he's 80% certain he will not be back next season. It's a good thing we have basketball on Tuesday or this might take a while to get over.

I had been saving this pic for a Music City Victory Post, but I decided to go ahead and use it to celebrate the blood, sweat and tears Rich Brooks has given our program. We'll do an ode to Rich Brooks post later in the week/s..

The game started with Morgan Newton looking better than we've seen him all year. The highlight of the game for Kentucky was the Newton to Mathews throw we've been waiting for all year. That play left most fans feeling good until the defense took the field. Clemson quickly moved down the field in five plays and beat our NFL defensive back for a TD. From there, the game slowed with a battle of field goals (for UK) and field position.

After a UK fumble giving Clemson the best starting field position they've had the entire game, you could feel it slipping away. The momentum had completely left the Cats and the already sputtering offense seemed like nothing could go their way. Even Mr. Do Everything, Randall Cobb dropped a few passes. When that starts happening, it just wasn't meant to be. You could hear the fat lady warming up her pipes.

After the Cats failed convert on fourth down, the defense somehow forgot how to contain C.J. Spillman. They had contained Spillman the entire game, but with UK's last opportunity for a possession on the line, Spillman ran the ball for consecutive first downs. And that's when the fat lady officially began singing.

So where does that leave UK Football?

Coach Brooks - He commented in the post game show that he is 80% certain he will not be back next season. He regrets not beating TN, SC, and a few close ones this year. He also addressed the progress of the program by saying, "It's not where I want it be and where I think it needs to be".
Derrick Locke - At this point he's still looking into his NFL draft options.
Morgan Newton - Looked the best he has all year. He missed a few receivers who were wide open, but his confidence is something we haven't seen in QB since Woodson.

  5. The Legend of Cobb Continues

    by , December 28th, 2009 at 01:29 PM
The Football Wildcats announced their team awards last week and you'll never guess who was awarded the Most Valuable Player. I'll give you one chance to get it......that's right Randall Cobb.

He did everything except call the plays, and we know he didn't do that because we lost three close ones because he didn't touch the ball late in the game. I guess the offensive coaching staff missed the fourth quarter due to the munchies after smoking doobies the entire first half (yeah, I'm still a little upset about all of that) At least that's my theory.

We also ran across a group on Facebook that has identified some other achievments of Mr. Cobb that was somehow overlooked by the media. Never fear for you can always count on the Nation of Blue to find senseless stuff like this to entertain you.

Here's the rundown of Cobb's achievements...

In a related story, Cobb will start at wide receiver, tailback, right guard, free safety, defensive tackle, punter, and water-boy as well.
