The winner goes to the Final Four and the loser calls their season a success having made it to the Elite Eight. Today at 5:05pm, the final chapter of the 2010-2011 Elite Eight tips off when Kentucky and North Carolina meet on the hardwood. Two schools full of tradition and known for winning. It’s going to be a battle. But it’s not the first and certainly won’t be the last for the two schools.
Since 1924, Kentucky and North Carolina have played each other 33 times. North Carolina has an overwhelming lead in the series 22-11. The Tarheels have also won 6 of the last 7 including a 2 point victory over the 10th ranked Wildcats on December 4, 2010.
This will mark the 15th time in the series that the Wildcats were ranked lower than North Carolina. Kentucky has only won 4 of those games.
Today, the Wildcats will need another solid performance to knock off an improved UNC team. Both teams are fighting for the chance to play for another game. It’s going to be a good one.
