UK Coach John Calipari is quite busy preparing for the Texas A&M game tomorrow but USA Today’s Nicole Auerbach caught up with him to ask a variety of questions. Here are some excerpts:
Nerlens Noel vs Anthony Davis
“They’re totally two different players. I don’t see comparisons because they’re just not the same. They’re not. It’s not fair to either to compare to either one, but especially for Nerlens, to compare him to Anthony. He was on a team of veterans, so Anthony could come at his own pace. That’s not the case here. This kid’s doing everything he can but he’s on an immature team, an inexperience team. When another team makes a run, they kind of tighten up a little bit. My teams in the past, (runs) didn’t faze anybody. What’s happening now is the only guy who is not wilting when teams make runs is Nerlens. That’s why I’m saying, ‘Take these other guys with you.’ … (Against Ole Miss,) guys were missing layups, missing free throws, taking quick jumpers, letting people drive right around them. He got those four blocks, so we win the game. Without him, we don’t win the game.”
Signed Shoes on eBay now at $2,650
“(Kentucky fans) are generous. They’re charitable. They know they’re an army, and when they come together for something, they can move mountains. … There are other projects we’ll tap into the Big Blue Nation and say, ‘Let’s all get behind this, and we can make a difference.”
