Marcus McWilson confirmed to UK

Kentucky landed a recruiting commitment from Marcus McWilson, a four-star safety from Youngstown, Ohio, after he returned from his official visit to Lexington. Withdrawing a pledge to Nebraska was a tough decision, he was committed to them for a long time.

It was tough. I had been committed to them for so long, but in the end, it was what I had to do for myself, and I had to be a man and just call and tell them what I was going to do. They understood. They weren’t happy about it, but we were straight up.

In an interview with Courier-Journal’s Steve Jones, he pointed out that the decision was greatly influenced by his experience at Kentucky, coaches, his family, and fans calling them Stoops Troops.

When I got back home I went over the pros and cons with my family and was checking the school out, and it seemed like a good deal and the (comfort) level was there. Great coaches and great people down there. I loved the fans. … I had a great time.

Coach Stoops and them, they’re ready. They call them the Stoops Troops. Beyond that, it’s a great school. They have crazy fans. I tweeted that I’m committed to Kentucky, and it got 300 retweets and 150 favorites. (Up to 500 retweets by 4:30 p.m.) They were just going crazy.

Once these top recruits realize this isn’t just a basketball state they will be attracted more and more by the craziness us fans show for them.
