Donnie Tyndall Returns Home to Trounce Sean Woods’ Morehead State

Donnie Tyndall left Morehead State last season for Southern Miss and returned home Friday night to play his former team at Johnson Arena.

New head coach Sean Woods was hoping his guys would be ready to play and get the Eagles back on track after losing 5 out of the last 8.

Southern Miss made it a memorable homecoming for Coach Tyndall as the Golden Eagles trounced Morehead State 94-58 behind 18 points from Jerrold Brooks and Rashard McGill. Southern Miss also were unstoppable behind the arc, knocking down 11 of 19 for 57.9%.

Morehead State was led in scoring by Bakari Turner’s 16 points.

Coach Tyndall was happy with his team’s performance and loved being back in Morehead.

Sean Woods wasn’t as thrilled.

There seems to be a lot of problems with Morehead State right now and are a shadow of the team that Kentucky fans saw in Rupp Arena earlier this season. The Eagles have regressed, and with OVC play looming, Woods better be finding a way to get things right or it will be a long year in the conference.

Southern Miss played very athletic, attacked the rim at will, and really shot the basketball well. The only losses Tyndall’s team has are to high quality opponents(Wichita State, Arizona, New Mexico State, etc) and really look like a strong contender for the Conference USA title.
