I’ve been contemplating even writing this post, but I guess it’s something that has to be done. Kentucky football goes up against Vanderbilt today (did you guys know that?). So I guess you can consider this our “pre-game” post.
We’re not going to do the “Know your enemy” or any fancy “simulations” (we’ll save those for basketball), because we’re actually pretty tired of the whole thing.
Yes I’m a UK fan and I do love UK Football. I even purchased a fair amount of season tickets. So please don’t give me that “you’re not a real fan” stuff.
I think I’m like most fans that become disinterested when their team fails to win, and the coaching staff /administration continue to go through the season with the “we just need to try harder” approach.
I understand that we have a large amount of Freshman and Sophmore’s playing on this team. However, Joker was the “coach in waiting” for a reason. It was to make an easier transition and mainly reduce the impact on recruiting due to uncertainty of who the coach would be once Rich Brooks stepped down. So what happened? Where did all the Juniors and Seniors go?
I know, I know,.. I’m probably preaching to the choir.
Mitch Barnhart has stated that Joker is a very close friend and that probably has something to do with him not saying anything too negative about Joker’s performance. I guess that make Mitch a great friend! What it doesn’t make him is someone who want’s to be transparent and open with the fans.
This doesn’t happen when it’s the basketball program, it’s understood that the mens basketball team is something that belongs to the state and fans. It’s definitely a players first program, but it’s the fans who own the program. That’s what makes Calipari the perfect coach for UK. It’s how he communicates. Calipari makes everything extremely transparent and he’s honest with his team’s performance (and even his coaching performance) every step of the way.
When it comes to football, the administration and coaching staff, continue to stahl, week after week in an effort to delay the inevitable. Why does this happen? Because the football program is seen as something that belongs to the school administration first. They don’t feel they have to answer to the fans (until it hurts their wallet).
Football brings in more revenue than basketball, yet basketball get’s all the perks. Why?..because they understand that the fans own the basketball program and having anything but a top ten basketball team unacceptable. So don’t expect to hear any statements coming from Mitch anytime soon. It’s just football and they’ll explain things to the fans when they feel it’s absolutely necessary. They’ll make it very clear that we are not part of the process.
I understand… There’s actually nothing wrong with that approach.
I just wish we were treated with a little more trust and openness than this. We always have strong attendance at football games (except for this year), and to be treated like we’re just supposed to keep believing, really makes fans feel taken for granted.
It would be much better for Mitch to come out and say, “we’ll be lucky to win a game outside of Samford” and we’ve started looking for a new head coach. I actually think the fans would give Joker a respectable send off in this situation. Everyone wanted him to succeed, but it just didn’t work out.
Oh well.. enough of my rambling. Now it’s time for some information about today’s football game.
Looks like Vanderbilt is favored to win…….
Vanderbilt is a solid favorite with a 70% chance to beat Kentucky. Zac Stacy is projected for 79 rushing yards and a 57% chance of having at least 1 rushing TD. In the 30% of simulations where Kentucky wins, Jalen Whitlow averages 1.2 TD passes vs 0.75 interceptions, while in losses he has a ratio of 0.59 TDs to 0.92 interceptions. Raymond Sanders averages 72 rushing yards and 0.89 rushing TDs when Kentucky wins and 62 yards and 0.43 TDs in losses. Vanderbilt has a 42% chance of forcing more turnovers than they commit. Positive turnover margin helps them win 80% of the time. SPREADS / TOTALS: Current Point Spread is KY +7 — Over/Under line is 46
I don’t blame you if you don’t watch, but I’ll probably be watching. I’ll be excited and always hoping that the CATS are going to pull it out. Why?.. because that’s what I do. I’m a fan and I love my CATS. So Mr. Barnhart, please don’t take that for granted.
Now that we’ve covered that, I guess we can end with a poll…
